Come to every class prepared for Spanish. By "prepared" I mean materials & mindset! Be fully prepared to hear, read, write, speak, think and breathe in Spanish! There is no better way to learn a language than to immerse yourself as much as you can!
You'll receive a "peso" that you will need to "spend" daily. It will serve as a tangible reminder of whether or not you have engaged with the language that day. Participation is not optional in the class and you will receive 2 points every day for your participation and engagement. (See "Grades" tab)
I will update Infinite Campus every 2-ish weeks, but I will return your physical work much more promptly - within 1 day or so. I encourage you to keep track of your own grades. All work will have a point value. You will know your grade by adding up your total points and dividing them by the total points available. I round up percentages, but not points.
Example:
Weekly Dictados = 20 pts.
Pesos for week = 10 pts.
Quiz = 25 pts.
HW on studyspanish.com = 10 pts.
At the end of the trimester, the total number of earned points gets divided by the total number of possible points. Example:329/400 = 82%
The final overall grade for the year is calculated as follows:
T1 = 30%
T2 = 30%
T3 = 30%
Midterm exam = 5%
Final exam/project (AP) = 5%
Part of our school's mission includes the words "exemplary character." I expect you to maintain your academic integrity. Your work must be your own, created by you without the assistance of any form of artificial intelligence. Work that is not your own will receive a 0% without the ability to re-do.
You will have 1 week to make up work if you are absent. Email me ahead of time (if possible) to find out what you'll be missing and how to make it up. This applies to any work we do in class (activities, quiz, dictado etc.) as well as your peso. You will need always have your peso to spend to make up, even if there is no physical work to make up. By either calling my Google number or meeting with me at lunch, you will somehow engage with the Spanish language for the day. You'll start off by introducing yourself then you can say something like "Hola, this is .... and I'm calling for my peso for (day your absent)..." then speak Spanish.
Ideally, you will get your work on time and do it well! Work that you do not submit on time will not be worth full credit. For every day* it is late, you will lose a letter grade from its original worth. So, if you earned a 91%, it will be an 81% if it's a day late, 71% if it's 2 days late, etc.
*HW will be due at the beginning of class. Late is anything after that point whether end of school day or the next day.
If you need extra practice and/or help, set up a time to come see me. You should do this as soon as something is unclear, not the day before an assessment. If I am not available (see the “Abierto/Cerrado” sign on the door), the following websites are excellent to practice your Spanish skills:
