The past few academic years have been a challenging time for children. They have faced many obstacles and the children of Woodlands have been very resilient! Firstly, it was understanding what the Coronavirus was, then getting used to home learning during Lockdown 1.0 and Lockdown 3.0, missing social interactions with their friends and staff at school and finally returning to school in bubbles in a school that looked very different with our new bubble rules. We are getting used to a 'new normal' with hygiene reminders to reduce transmission of germs. We are very proud of the way children have coped with all the changes over the last few years. 2023 has been a much more positive year for Woodlands, as we have been able to book more opportunities for our pupils to enhance the curriculum.

Our Wellbeing Wall in the main corridor reminds pupils of the '5 ways to wellbeing' and why it is important to talk about their feelings and emotions. For World Mental Health Day pupils designed a brick for the wall on one of the 5 ways to wellbeing. Now more than ever children need to have a good balance of the 5 ways to wellbeing- Connect, Be active, Take Notive, Give and Keep Learning.

On return to school we have been following a recovery currciulum which has helped children express how they are feeling and transition back to school. After discussing their feelings during lockdown and after returning to school they designed a boat. This was to show that we we are all on the same stormy sea but our boats are different (our circumstances are different).

As part of emotional regulation we have a calming area in the classroom if children feel they need some space to calm down. Each class has the worry box where they can write down any worries for their teacher to read or a worry button online. An adult will speak to them about their worry and try to resolve it.

Calm Club
Calm Club
Proving to be a popular choice at lunchtimes, we have created a Calm Club where children have a designated day to come and enjoy some calm activities indoors. This happens twice a week for KS2 pupils.

We have a weekly Celebration Assembly every Friday to celebrate the great learning around school.

During January- March 2021 we did our weekly celebration assemblies remotely. Thank you for all of the support you gave your children with home learning....the outcomes of work shared were fantastic!

When we returned to school (March- July 2021) we met virtually to celebrate success together as we were in class bubbles.

Music has the power to make us feel good. Children can practice the songs we learnt in music assembly on Google Classroom. Click here to see all the fun music we practiced this week.
What do we do during Music Assembly?
We practice singing songs.
We celebrate The Musicians of the Week- children chosen for their fantastic ideas/ contributions to the Music Lessons.
We listen to and discuss different musical genres using our musical vocabulary.
We enjoy performances from our Spotlight Musicians. Some children have volunteered to perform LIVE during music assembly. 🤩
