Welcome to Mechanics 10! This class will build on your mechanical understanding gained in previous years. You will continue on the journey towards the knowledge and skills that will help you throughout your life and career choices; particularly in the Automotive Service Technician trade. All mechanics CTS courses are geared towards mechanical understanding and learning, and all students are welcome.
Course content is pre-apprenticeship level; however, the skills, abilities, and information will put you on a career path for apprenticeship in the future. Course content follows the Alberta Education CTS Mechanics program with an emphasis on foundational principles and skills. As a skills-based course, students will be asked to complete three credits, which will be prerequisites towards the Mechanics 20, and 30 level requirements. All prerequisites for a course must be achieved before another course can be taken. There are no prerequisites for Mechanics 10.
Hardworking and diligent students may be able to complete extra credits during this 3 credit block.
Welcome to Mechanics 20/30!
Course content is pre-apprenticeship level; however, the skills, abilities, and information will put you on a career path towards apprenticeship. Course content follows the Alberta Education CTS Mechanics program with an emphasis on building foundational principles and skills. As a skills-based course, students will be asked to complete five credits in Mechanics 20, or 5 credits in Mechanics 30 level (depending on your school year and prerequisites). All prerequisites for a course must be achieved before a higher-level course can be taken. The course selection in Mechanics depends on your past course completion/prerequisites.
Hardworking and diligent students may be able to complete extra credits during this 5 credit block.
As this is a skill-based course, regular attendance and being on time are both crucial to student success.
Shop time can not be made up, and missing lab time may result in a student not successfully finishing a credit.
Each day, students are responsible for coming to class prepared with the following:
A Chromebook or laptop device
Eye protection (must be used at all times) - we supply one pair
Pen, pencils, eraser
Far more than a book, Fundamentals of Automotive Technology is a complete curriculum system. This system pairs accessible online content with the textbook and supplements to enhance student learning. Online resources engage students and improve comprehension with interactive content, quizzes, videos, 3D animations and more. Reporting tools deliver insights into student progress. Tasksheets can be easily stored and graded online. Plus, students and instructors can access these resources from nearly all devices and platforms, including Apple iOS and Android.
Be professional, courteous, and respectful towards people and equipment.
Come to class in appropriate attire; no loose or baggy clothing, wear proper footwear, coveralls, and safety glasses.
Keep all work areas CLEAN! It benefits all of us. It’s your responsibility to maintain a clean work environment.
Have a positive attitude; a poor attitude puts all of us at risk. Not caring if the repair is done right is an accident waiting to happen. This could be you or a fellow student injured for life because you just didn’t care.
Be safe/work safe; in the classroom, lab and shop. Always!
Expect to make mistakes, you are learning, if you break something, report it to me.
All of the Mechanics courses are: CDX online research; lab time, and hands-on shop experience.
Each student is responsible for his/her learning and achievement in each course. Reading and research skills are required to complete the online CDX theory aspect of the course. Self discipline and proper shop behavior are essential to success in practical work. In the CTS Curriculum Personal Management Skills (ex: positive attitude and behavior, being responsible, and work safely) and Fundamental Skills (ex: manage information, think and solve problems, communicate, and use numbers) must be demonstrated and meet expected learner outcomes as we prepare our students for the world of work.
The student must attend class regularly and come prepared with necessary materials as outlined under the heading course materials.
The student is expected to complete all assignments and shop activities as outlined in each individual course in order to be successful and obtain 1-credit.
Inappropriate and unsafe behavior will result in the removal from the course.
When absent it is the student’s responsibility to check your Google Classroom, the Mechanics webpage , the teacher, or fellow students for missed assignments and make up time.
Classroom Rules for Cell Phone Use
Cell phones are no longer permitted to be used during instructional time. Cell phones are not permitted in the lab/shop areas at any time.

All vehicles entering the shop will be approved and inspected by the mechanics instructor before the vehicle enters the building. A fee will be charged, and vehicles approved on a case-by-case basis. A booking procedure will be utilized.
