I am a journeyman carpenter by trade. I apprenticed under a custom log house builder, Langberg Log Homes. I have worked for myself doing construction work. I recently finished a bachelors of education and am now a certified teacher. I am married to a wonderful woman, and we have three kids. We are currently renovating our house in our spare time.
“Attitude is more important than skill!”
*My goal is to teach students that a great attitude and work ethic equals success! This is the main attribute I hope to instill in students as they move into the world of work outside of school.
*I will promote project-based learning where students will work both independently and in groups. I will encourage students to “think outside the box”, be creative, and bring their personal interests and passions into the shop.

Some things to remember.
Supplies: Please wear closed-toed shoes in the shop at all times. Please bring a pencil to use for theory work and for laying out measurements on your project. The shop will supply the necessary tools, but if you would like to bring your own and keep them in your locker you are most welcome. A good example of a personal tool to bring would be a tape measure, preferably in inches.
Theory will be done both in the shop (demonstrations, tool review, exemplars, ect.) and online. If you would like to bring in a chromebook to do the online theory you are encouraged to do so.
Shop Clean-up: Each student will also be responsible for an area of shop clean-up. A portion of the student's grade will be dependent on efforts during this time in class.
Dress appropriately. Because we are working in a shop environment it is important, for safety reasons, to wear closed-toed shoes and not baggy clothes. Anything that could get caught in a tool - long hair, sweater stirrings, baggy shirts, jewelry - will have to be secured, or removed prior to working in the shop. Coveralls are available if students would like to wear them.
Safety is crucial- safety guidelines will be a major focus of the course. Safety glasses must be worn at all times. Students are not to use any tools they have not been certified on and horseplay is not tolerated
And mostly, treat everyone and everything with respect, be patient and enjoy our time in the shop!
