By registering in Construction Technology 2/3 you have committed to complete at least 5 modules of study. By hard work it is possible to obtain 6 or even 7 credits should you so choose. Each module is worth one CTS high school credit and takes approximately 17-25 hours to complete. The modules for this level are of the intermediate and advanced levels. Prerequisites for these levels are determined by the successful completion of CTS Level 1 or 2 modules and should you be missing one or more prerequisites I will work with you to achieve the credit before you move on.
So what will we do?
Each course will begin with a mandatory project designed to enhance skills already learned.
Following completion of the initial project the course is a “project driven” course where students are expected to select a project that they can apply several modules of study towards. There are numerous projects that incorporate several modules so the student may develop a project that meets the criteria in the program. Students may opt for a project of their choice(given instructor approval) or a larger project to fulfill a need in the community. All students will be expected to demonstrate work skills at all times, and will be required to clean up at the end of each class Students will also be expected to perform regular shop maintenance and improvements.
Before any construction begins, the students must have satisfactorily completed the following criteria:
● A project proposal that clearly outlines the proposed modules and the fulfillment of all requisite learning and techniques. Modules must be selected in conjunction with the instructor.
● A scale drawing of their project reflecting the top, side, and front view, complete with all necessary measurements and construction notes and techniques.
● An estimate sheet that includes all material needed with appropriate costs. An additional “wastage” cost must be included. Before the students begin their project full payment is required prior to construction. Please talk to Mr. Watton for alternate arrangements.
● A cut diagram that adequately reflects all material needed and in case of sheet goods, the proper layout for cutting the stock.
● A task timeline that outlines specific procedures for the completion of all modules and project work.
The above requirements are required for all projects and are calculated into the student’s final grade for each module. All students will also undergo necessary safety training in the safe use and operation of required tools.
