DESCRIPTION: US1 students will study our nation’s history from colonial settlement through World War I (1620- 1919). Students will be introduced to the historical, cultural, geographical, economic, political, and social trends during this period. Students will read primary source material related to colonial settlement, causes/course/ outcome of the American Revolution, the formation of the U.S. government, successes and failures of the early republic, westward expansion, industrialization, the causes/course/outcome of the Civil War, Reconstruction, Urbanization, Progressive Reforms, American Imperial Expansion, and the causes/course/outcome of World War I.

DESCRIPTION: US II students will continue the study of our nation’s history from the Roaring Twenties through the War on Terror (1920-2001). Students will be introduced to the historical, cultural, geographical, economic, political, and social trends during this period. Students will read primary source material related to the post-war social change of the 1920’s, the Great Depression, the New Deal, the causes/course/outcome of World War II, 1950’s American Society, the JFK/LBJ Years, the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War, the Nixon/Ford/Carter Years, the Conservative Reagan Years, the Clinton Years and the 21st Century War on Terror.
LEVELS OFFERED: Enhanced Competence 162, College Preparatory 163, Honors 164 PREREQUISITES: For the honors level the student must have achieved a B or better in previous history course or an A in College Preparatory, and have the recommendation of present instructor.
DESCRIPTION: This is a survey course that covers the period of time from Columbus to modern time. Students will study the history of major civilizations and major political leaders of this period. The causes and consequences of the great military events along with the political, economic, ethnic and religious developments and conflicts in the world today will be discussed.
