DESCRIPTION: The AP program in United States History is designed to provide students with the analytical skills and factual information necessary to deal critically with the problems and issues in American history. Students enrolled in the course are responsible for the assessment of historical materials with respect to their relevance to a given interpretive problem, their reliability, and importance. This course is the equivalent to a freshman course at a college or university. The AP US History exam is required to be taken. This course has a limited enrollment.

PREREQUISITES: The recommendations of present instructor. This course is recommended for grade 11 and 12. DESCRIPTION: The AP World History course will introduce the student to the understanding of the evolution of global processes and contacts in interaction with different types of human societies. The course highlights the nature of changes in international frameworks and their causes and consequences, as well as comparisons among major societies. There will be an emphasis on understanding political, social, economic, and religious development on a global scale. The course will cover the time period from 8000 B.C.E. to present time. The course is the equivalent to a freshman course at a college or university. The AP World History exam is required to be taken. The course has a limited enrollment.

Topics covered include: physiology of the brain, memory, learning, language, perception, lifespan changes, normality and abnormality, social interactions, group influence on individuals, and therapies.

DESCRIPTION: Advanced Placement Human Geography will introduce the student to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth’s surface. The student will be taught the use of spatial concepts and landscape analysis to analyze human social organization and its environmental consequences. The student will also learn about the methods and tools geographers use in their science and practice. This course is the equivalent to a freshman course at a college or university. The AP Human Geography exam is required to be taken. This course has a limited enrollment.

DESCRIPTION: AP Macroeconomics is a college-level course that introduces students to the principles that apply to an economic system as a whole. The course places particular emphasis on the study of national income and price-level determination. It also develops students’ familiarity with economic performance measures, the financial sector, stabilization policies, economic growth, and international economics. Students learn to use graphs, charts, and data to analyze, describe, and explain economic concepts.
