Phonemic awareness is the ability to notice, think about, and work with the individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words. Crucial for reading success!!

Phonics refers to knowledge of letter sounds and the ability to apply that knowledge in decoding unfamiliar printed words. Refers to words in print.

Fluency is a key contributor toward independent and successful reading and consists of three components:

1. Accuracy

2. Rate

3. Prosody

Vocabulary is understanding, defining, and using new words.

Comprehension is understanding and analyzing what you listen to and what you read.
