100 Book Challenge

100 Book Homework Challenge

The 100 Book Homework Challenge is a special goal for each WMA Kindergartner. Every year we ask each K student to read a book with someone every night, counting the way to 100. Your child will have a 100 Book Challenge packet inside the "Kindergarten Parent Keep at Home" binder. The packet contains directions, book list pages and favorite book pages. Parents will receive the K binders on Back to School Night.

Here's how to do this homework: Read a book together and print its name on the list. When your child gets to number 10, he/she looks over the list and chooses a favorite. Then the student uses the book report page to tell why the book is a favorite. Send the list of 10 books and the favorite page to school in the homework folder. Then start on the next set of ten.

We will keep the pages on file. We'll post the children's progress on our web page. When all the pages are returned, the student makes a keepsake booklet that we will display in the K hallway.

The goal is to reach 100 books on or before the 100th day of school, which usually falls in February. This assignment is open-ended with no due dates other than 100 Day. If your child needs more time, that is fine. However, consider March 31 the deadline for returning all pages to ensure that your child's booklet can be completed.

Read any books your child enjoys or cover some favorite topics: ten books about animals; ten from a favorite series or author; ten space books; ten number books; ten Halloween books; ten books about friends, etc. Have fun with this and see how excited your child can get about reading a good book! We hope that this project will make many nice memories for you and your K student.
