Zoe & Matt - Student Life

Fun, leisure, and culture are important parts of the university experience. We have plans to energize the student body and bring different parts of campus life together. As people who have experience and knowledge of Student Assembly finances, we want to improve the process that student organizations use to get funding. It needs to be clearer and more accessible to every student group on campus.

In past work, we purchased furniture near Washington and McGlothlin Halls, and pushed for furniture updates at the Daily Grind. We distributed keypers (phone wallets) as a fun way to help students keep track of their keys. We subsidized attendance to Saturday in the City in 2023. We hosted the first and second Orientation Aides appreciation events. We purchased cash boxes for student organizations to check out during fundraising, as well as negotiated funding contracts with APO, Medic Council, and Alma Mater Productions. We helped organize the first Fall Frenzy pumpkin carving event and free ice cream on the Terrace. We also hosted poster parties for organizations before activities fairs.

Our Policies

Make the Org Funding Process More Transparent

We understand why students are frustrated with the Organization Budget Allocation Process, and we want to use what we’ve learned to improve clarity and ensure that orgs are getting the money they need. This means helping organizations understand guidelines, especially communicating to students why certain rules exist though unused means such as Instagram and by going to student councils.

We will also re-evaluating existing guidelines and ensure diverse representation on OBAC, especially organization treasurers who have to go through the process. We also want to help organizations catch mistakes before their budget requests can be denied for it, and we’ve already started implementing this by advocating for publicizing an advanced timeline going forward. One of the main responsibilities of Student Assembly is getting orgs money, and if elected, we will do more to gain the trust of orgs.

More Student School Wide Events

We understand that students want more opportunities to meet new people in fun environmnets. But we know we can't do this alone. If elected, we will work with student organizations to amplify their events via Instagram or through collaboration with our Undersecretaries.

Work With SAAC to Strenghten School Spirit

Athletes can feel disconnected from the broader William & Mary community, so our Administration will do the work to bridge divides and get different parts of campus together. We will work with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee to boost attendance at athletic events - of all sports - and sponsor events that boost school spirit.

Promote Events Hosted By Student Orgs

We see the work that student orgs do and know you put on amazing events. We want to do everything we can -- such as reposting on the Student Assembly story to make the Instagram a hub for fun events and promoting your events on class and student body-wide emails -- to boost attendance and engagement so groups can increase attendance at their events.

Priority Registration for Athletes

We know athletes have a rigorous schedule and often plan many semesters ahead to make sure their classes fit in with practices and games.
