Water Outage Incident: 02-22
Impact Period: 08:30am - 1:15pm, 5 February 2022
Service fully restored: 1:15 pm, 5 February 2022
Due to sub-zero temperatures, an internal pipe ruptured inside a home located on the Northeast leg of the water distribution system. During the early hours of 5 February, WLWD detected abnormally high usage along the NE leg. As a result, the entire system was shut down to preserve water reserves and troubleshoot the leak.
Crews observed water flowing out of an unoccupied house located on the Northeast leg, upon which further investigation revealed a catastrophic leak within the home. Service was suspended to the house, allowing the entire system to restore and operate within normal parameters.
This incident was preventable and an example of why you should turn off the water from the exterior main to your residence. Please call the Water District if you need assistance in shutting off your exterior water main if you plan to vacate your home for an extended period.
Water Outage Incident: 01-22
Impact Period: 3-4 January 2022
Service fully restored: 1:30pm, 4 January 2022
Reason for the outage: Since approximately January 2nd, 2022, a significant leak in the distribution system caused our water reserves to rapidly drop close to zero effectively draining the system. In order to protect and refill the system, WLWD suspended water service to the entire subdivision starting at 7:00 am on January 3rd, 2022.
WLWD initially identified the general location of the leak to be within the Northeast leg of the system. All board members and volunteers worked diligently for 1.5 days to isolate the leak and restore service.
A ruptured interior shut-off pipe located inside a part-time residence on Pine Lake Drive was the cause of the leak. The ruptured interior pipe caused significant flooding to the home's ground level. We have contacted the owner, and they are aware of the situation.
This incident was preventable and an example of why you should turn off the water from the exterior main to your residence. Please call the Water District if you need assistance in shutting off your exterior water main if you plan to vacate your home for an extended period.
Remember to disconnect garden hoses during the winter and ask WLWD to shut off your water supply if you plan to vacate your home for extended periods.
Below are actual photos from the most recent incident that caused a major leak originating from inside an unoccupied home. Sub-zero temperatures can cause internal pipes to rupture.
