2023-2024 WLIS Choir Season

Watch this space for more information about the triumphant return of our choir for the 2022-2023 school year.  We plan to start up choir rehearsals for the year on  Tuesday, August 30, 2022.  Please see the registration information below.

2023-2024 Choir Registration

Registration will open THIS WEEK  for the 2022-2023 WLIS Choir season!  Please fill out both steps of the registration process below. (if you have any questions please contact Mr. Leazenby.)

We will rehearse on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:20-3:30, beginning on Tuesday, August29, 2023.  Please see performance uniform information below.

Choir Performance Uniform

Our performance uniform is a red polo shirt.  Please note: The choir and orchestras use the same shirt. If you already have a Happy Hollow shirt from a previous year, or from a former student or a used WLIS MUSIC shirt it is quite acceptable, feel free to use the shirt you already own.  We will pass out shirt order forms during one of our early choir practices.  If you are absent from that practice, or need a new copy, you can print the order form below from home:

Choir shirt order form (same as orchestra) Price this year $20. (Unfortunately the color of the new shirt may NOT match the old shirts completely due to availability.)

Form and money are due by

or see Mr. LeazenbyPlease return all order forms to Mr. Leazenby by the appropriate due date in a sealed and labeled envelopt.  Thanks to some generous donations, we may have some gently used choir shirts available to borrow for the year at no cost to you.  If your family would like to borrow a shirt, please contact Mr. Leazenby.

Our concert attire is nice Blue Jeans, WL concert shirt or appropriatly red polo (golf) style shirt, and dark shoes.

No School = No Practice

Any time school is closed due to weather or other serious event, all after-school events are automatically cancelled.  When school is closed, please stay home, and stay safe.

Choir Procedures

Have you missed a choir rehearsal (or do you know that you will need to miss an upcoming rehearsal)?  Please fill out  the Choir Absence Form as soon as possible.  You can also submit this form electronically (preferable) or you may submit a hard copy of the form to me. (LINK FOR HARD FORM DOWNLOAD) To reduce traffic jams and ensure student safety, we will dismiss our regular Tuesday and Thursday choir practices from WLIS Door #1 (the main entrance).  Please observe the same pickup traffic procedures as you would for end-of-the-day dismissal.  Be sure to pull all the way forward so we can use the entire sidewalk. If you must be late to pick your child up, please remember the WLIS office will close this year at 3:45 p.m. NO STUDENT SHOULD BE HERE AFTER 3:55 P.M.  Please send me an email if you will be late picking up your child.

About the WLIS Choir

The WLIS Choir was founded in 1988 by Mr. Randy Leazenby. It is a non-auditioned group made up of students in grades 4-6.  Our choir meets after school in the music room two days a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:20- 3:30 p.m.  The choir performs more challenging musical selections than the regular general music classes, but is considered a teaching choir.  We perform throughout the year at school concerts, community venues, and events.

The choir is directed by Mr. Randy Leazenby whose teaching experience of 40 years, covers all grade levels for all ensembles.  Mr. Leazenby graduated from the world renown Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.  Mr. Leazenby's studied Under Walter Hornibrook (conducting), D. Ralph Appleman, PHD (voice), Dr. Robby Greenly (conducting), Margaret Hillis (conducting),  Fredrick Ebbs (conducting), Ray Cramer (conductiong), Steven Pratt (conducting), David Aiken (voice), Roy Samuleson (voice), Walter Cassel (voice), Dr. Robert Reifsnyder (Trombone), Prof. Van Haney (Trombone), which includes instrumental and choral conducting as well as voice and trombone with a focus on music education.

The Lafayette Childrens choir is a supplemental opportunity for those students who can't get enough singing in their lives. :) Please feel free to to print the flyer and contact them about joining. Please let them know you found out about them through our choir dept.
