EXPECTATIONS

behavior ☀️

Students will work together in our first weeks of school to create a Class Constitution. Common themes are safety, kindness, cooperation, and responsibility. Our Constitution will be posted here upon completion.

CLASSCRAFT

We use a platform in our classroom called Classcraft where students can earn points for being awesome. Classcraft provides a virtual space for us to learn and grow, including features like quests, review games, and collaborative goals and powers.

Parents can learn more about Classcraft here. In our room, we learn that no one is perfect and we all mess up sometimes! We view mistakes as learning opportunities.

Homework 📚

Reading for at least 20 minutes each night is our biggest non-negotiable homework this year. Students should be reading books of their choice for pleasure, and tracking their reading data with tools we'll learn and practice at school.

In addition, students can participate in several different engagement opportunities at home with family (or even friends!) Here are some of those options:

  • Monthly Table Talk Menus: Students will receive a "menu" with open-ended questions based on what we're discovering in school to facilitate deep and enriching conversation about school at home! TIP: Set aside some time at dinner, breakfast, or in the car on the way to violin lessons to chat about one question each night!

  • Math Game of the Month: We'll learn to play a new math game together in class at the start of each month, then materials for game play will be sent home with students to explore and enjoy with family and friends. At the end of the month, we'll debrief in class about the discoveries we've made! TIP: Try to play together about once a week.

  • Monthly Reading Bingo: The best way to grow in reading is to be surrounded by an environment of reading! This "bingo" sheet will be provided to students each month, and should encourage the whole family to participate in reading for enjoyment. All family members can mark off books they've read throughout the month that fit in the bingo categories. TIP: Chat about the books you're reading as you check them off the bingo board!

All of these resources will be sent home with students at the beginning of each month, and can also be found digitally under the "Resources" tab of our website.
