Family Life
I was born in Dawson Springs and graduated a Dawson Springs panther in 1996. Since then, I moved to Bowling Green, KY to attend WKU and have lived there ever since. My husband, Chris, and I met in college and married in May of 2000 just after graduation. We have three daughters who keep us very busy. Our oldest, Kaitlyn, is a student at the University of Alabama in Huntsville majoring in aero space engineering. Our middle daughter, Madison, will be a senior in the Fall and was accepted into the Governor's Scholar program this Summer. Our youngest, Peyton, will enter high school next year and plans to play as much tennis as possible competing in tournaments and taking lessons.
Education Experience
I have 15 years teaching experience. I taught algebra I, geometry, and algebra II for four years at Warren East High School in Bowling Green, KY. Then in 2010 when South Warren Middle school opened I moved and taught 7th grade math, 8th grade math, algebra I for high school credit, and geometry for high school credit. Teaching vertically through the math curriculum has been one of the best influences on my teaching practices. In July of 2021 I left the classroom to join the Western Kentucky Educational Cooperative as a math acceleration specialist. In my new role, I have learned a great deal about building fluency and number sense in grades K - five.
Role at the Western Kentucky Educational Cooperative (WKEC)
I am the math acceleration specialist on the CRRSA team. We are a three year grant, beginning July 2021, designed to help schools rebound from the affects of COVID on student learning and behavior. I work directly with districts and teachers to improve math instruction and student learning. I run the WKEC math network that meets monthly throughout the school year. I offer training for teachers and administrators both in person and virtually. I partner with schools to observe math instruction and create a customized professional development plan. I mentor teachers and model lessons using research based teaching strategies. My role is to support districts in any way I can.
