About Mrs. mcDermott

Hello! My name is Mrs. McDermott and this is my 6th year teaching in the West Islip School District.

I have my teaching certificates in Childhood Education (grades 1-6), Special Education (grades 1-6), and Teaching English to Students of Other Language (K-12).

My family is from Croatia and I speak the Croatian Language. 

I'm married and have a 3 year old son, Max, and 1 year old daughter, Nina.

I love to travel, be active, read, and spend time with family and friends. 

My students are from all over the world with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.  My daily interactions with them in the classroom have become a wonderful learning experience for me because their progress and learning often generates immediate feedback on my teaching techniques.  Every day I learn something new on the job, which I enjoy very much, thanks to all my ELL students and ELL families!
