Hello and welcome to my website! I am one of three reading teachers at Paul J. Bellew Elementary School. I am excited to begin my 11th year as a reading teacher in West Islip! I was previously a classroom teacher, where I taught Second, Third, and Fifth Grade.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics from Dowling College. Then, I gained my Master of Science in Literacy Education from Dowling College. I have a state certification in Elementary Education Pre K-6th grade, as well as Literacy Birth-6th grade. I also completed my Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership from LIU Post.
I sit on Bellew's Compact Team, which is a group of teachers, parents and the Principal (Mrs. Pratt) who collaborate to make improvements for the school. I have also co-run workshops for parents and teachers in the field of literacy instruction.
I gained a love of reading at a very young age and I am excited to share that with my students. My words of advice to all readers and writers are this: do a little each day; find something you enjoy reading and thinking about, and practice! Talk about your thinking with another reader. Write something to someone every day. Even write to yourself! Lastly, have fun!
Teachers can affect eternity; no one can tell where their influence stops!
I always hope that I make a positive and lasting impression on all of my students!
I look forward to a great year together! Go Lions!
