Support ITLS Integration through individual coaching and small group staff training
Encouraged participation in Technology Conferences and out-of district training opportunities. (WEMTA, Brainstorm, Google Summit, and SLATE.)
The district libraries will facilitate the growth of student digital literacy, technology integration and individual reading experiences.
1. The library program will facilitate the growth of student digital literacy and increased technology integration by incorporating the use of mobile devices within instruction.
Success Criteria and Measurement: (Completion by 2022-2023 school year.) Instruction across all grade levels will include the use of mobile technology (ie- chromebooks and ipads) to enhance current instruction. We will critically evaluate the lessons that are incorporating technology resources and schedule to see what additional improvements are necessary.
2. The library program will provide staff training/coaching support and the integration of WI Information Technology Literacy Standards through individual coaching and small group training sessions on topics selected by the teaching staff.
Success Criteria and Measurement: Both individual coaching and small group training beginning the summer of the 2022-2023 school year will be provided to staff. Once per year the district staff will be asked to complete a survey regarding training needs. Success will be measured based on our responsiveness to offering requested training based on the survey results and input from grade level technology meetings. Funding support through TEACH grant, district budget, and school library site budgets.
3. The library program will provide an increased awareness of library services and resources to staff and students.
a.) Promote and utilize library website
b.) Create material/resource lists subscription information access/directions, and utilizing resource lists in Destiny
Success Criteria and Measurement: During the month of September, each new staff member will be given a short overview of the library resources including digital subscription details and passwords. During the 2nd trimester of each school year, we will publish a print document to highlight digital resources, print materials and shared equipment available from the library department. Annually an electronic document highlighting library resources and services will be sent to district staff. The library webpages for each school will be actively maintained a minimum of once per month.
The district media specialist, with the support of library lead para-professionals, will analyze the use of district-purchased electronic subscriptions and programs during the spring of each year to make sound purchasing decisions for the following school year.
4. The library program will seek to enhance the reading culture in each building by creating additional independent reading opportunities for students.
a.) hosting book clubs at the elementary, middle and high school levels
b.) continuing to provide motivational rewards and opportunities for independent student reading at all levels
Success Criteria and Measurement:
Book Clubs: During the 2023-2024 school year three levels of book clubs will be hosted by the library program for voluntary student participation. In Wittenberg ELMS and Birnamwood ELMS we will offer one book club for the following levels: elementary (3rd/4th) , intermediate (5th) and middle school (6th-8th). At WBHS the library program will host two voluntary book clubs held during each of the two lunch periods, beginning mid-winter. Student interest will determine the number of meetings. We will ask for student feedback to plan and implement additional book clubs.
We will evaluate the amount of participation and student interest will drive the number of book clubs that will be offered during the 2024-2025 school year and subsequent years.
Motivational Programs:
During the fall of 2022 a new encouraging and motivational reading program will be developed district-wide. The program will be evaluated by the library staff annually and adjustments will be made to the program with input from building staff. Rewards will be based on goal setting between students and library staff.
The Accelerated Reader Program will continue at Birnamwood ELMS. The library program will continue to work with Birnamwood ELMS staff to make adjustments to the program to encourage student participation. The end-of-year auction will continue and the library staff will evaluate and update goals for the Lunch in the Library reward for May. In September and May of each school year the library staff and teaching staff will meet to discuss the motivational reading programs and make recommendations to improve the programs while maintaining high standards and challenging goals for the students
Funding resources to support this area of growth is from school library site budgets, Library Fund-21 accounts, Parent Teacher Organization, and donations.
Equipment and digital resource changes will drive future initiatives. The district will continue to update the Digital Citizenship curriculum for students.
