I remember the first musical I ever saw. I was in 6th grade and a local high school was putting on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I remember watching the high schooler playing Joseph running around in white boxer shorts with red hearts on them and thinking that this was the most amazing thing I ever saw. In high school, our choir went to New York every spring and I remember the first Broadway show I have seen produced and it blew me away. The Phantom of the Opera may be considered overrated, but to that high schooler, the magic I saw onstage will never be forgotten. I was also blessed to be involved in Shakespeare Troupe in high school which allowed me to test the non-musical side of theatre. As a non athlete, theatre, in all aspects, allowed me to belong and be part of something in high school. When I entered the theatre world 20 years after high school, I found the same amazing things still present that I fell in love with when I was younger. Community theatre has reignited that passion and those positive vibes. I love teaching my students science during the day and truly enjoy the ability to work with them after school to produce magic on stage from one amazing production to the next. There is always room on the stage for all.
