Linggwong (靈光) Privacy Policy

Effective date: 3 October 2026

Developer: John Mok

Contact email: linggwong-app@gmail.com

Introduction

Linggwong (靈光) is an iPhone app for capturing ideas as they come to you. In short: the app has no accounts, no ads, and no analytics or tracking tools. The ideas you record are stored only on your phone. The developer does not receive and cannot access any of your data. Some features do rely on services provided by Apple and OpenStreetMap, which are explained below.

1. What data the app stores

The following data is stored only on your phone, in the app's own folder:

1. The content, source, situation, tags and status of your ideas, and the relationships between them.

2. The time each idea was created.

3. The place name and latitude/longitude (only if you allow location access).

4. The text transcribed from voice input, and the length of the recording. The app does not store the audio recording itself.

5. Web links you add. The app stores only the link text and does not open or read the web page.

6. Photos you choose from your photo library. The app keeps a copy of the photo on your phone and records its file location.

This data is never uploaded to any server, and the developer cannot read it.

2. Permissions the app uses, and why

1. Location (only while using the app): when you add an idea, the app reads your current location to record where you had the idea and to show it on the Map screen. The app does not track your location in the background.

2. Microphone: to record your voice when you use voice input.

3. Speech recognition: to convert your voice into text.

4. Photos: to let you choose photos to attach to an idea. The app only receives the photos you pick.

You can turn off any of these permissions at any time in the iPhone Settings app. The related feature will stop working; everything else will continue to work.

3. Data that leaves your phone

The app has no server of its own. In the following cases, some data is processed by third-party services:

1. Apple speech recognition: when you use voice input, your recording is sent to Apple's speech recognition service, which converts it to text and returns it to the app.

2. Apple address lookup: after getting your location, the app passes the latitude/longitude to Apple's address lookup service built into iOS to turn it into a district or street name.

3. OpenStreetMap maps: when you open the Map screen, the app downloads map images from OpenStreetMap's tile servers (tile.openstreetmap.org). These requests include your IP address, information identifying this app, and the map area you are viewing. Because the map automatically shows where your ideas are, these areas may reveal the approximate places where you recorded ideas. The app does not send the content of your ideas to OpenStreetMap.

4. When you choose to share: when you tap Export, the app creates a backup file on your phone containing all your ideas (including locations) and opens the iOS share sheet. Where the file goes (for example AirDrop, email or the Files app) is entirely your choice. The app never sends it automatically.

5. External links: when you tap a link in the app (such as this privacy policy or the map copyright notice), it opens in your web browser.

Apple's handling of data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

The OpenStreetMap Foundation's handling of data is governed by its Privacy Policy: https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy

Apart from the cases above, the app does not send your data to anyone, does not sell your data, and does not use it for advertising or tracking.

4. iPhone backups

If you use iCloud Backup or back up your iPhone to a computer, the app's data may be included in those backups, depending on your system settings. Backups are handled by Apple's system features; the developer cannot access them.

5. How to delete your data

1. Delete a single idea: open the idea, tap Delete and confirm. Ideas developed directly from it are deleted as well. Copies of attached photos may remain temporarily in the app's temporary folder until the system clears it or you delete the app.

2. Delete all data: delete the Linggwong app from your iPhone. All of the app's data, including photo copies, is removed from your phone.

3. Backup files you have exported or shared, and iCloud or computer backups of your iPhone, are not removed when you delete the app. You need to delete them yourself.

4. The developer does not keep any of your data, so cannot view or delete it on your behalf. Data received by Apple and OpenStreetMap is handled under their own privacy policies.

6. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, this page will be updated and the effective date revised.
