Hasting Hill Academy
Hasting Hill Academy
Week ending 4/7/25
Hello everyone,
As the summer term heats up, both literally and figuratively, we're fast approaching the much-anticipated six-week holidays! The children will officially break up for school on Friday, July 18th, so just a few more weeks of fun and learning to go. With these warmer days, a friendly reminder to ensure your child comes to school prepared with sun cream, a hat, and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and protected.
I know some of our growing youngsters might find their school uniform a bit snug at this time of year. While we understand the challenges, it's still incredibly important that all children attend school in their full uniform, not sports clothes or jeans. Your cooperation with this is greatly appreciated.
It's been an incredibly busy and successful few weeks, packed with memorable events and trips. We've had so many fantastic experiences, including our wonderful Family Community Day, exciting trips to various places like the beach, the farm, Life Centre and Beamish, and two enriching residential trips. We've also welcomed some amazing visitors to school, such as Zoo Lab, St Johns Ambulance, and we even had the thrill of the Championship Play-Off trophy making an appearance!
To help you keep track of everything, I've pulled together some key dates for the next two weeks further down. Please also remember our exciting Colour Run is taking place in the last week of term – get sponsoring to support this fantastic event! Finally, keep reading for a few staff updates as well.
As always, thank you so much for your ongoing support. We truly appreciate our partnership with you in your child's education.

Staffing Update
It's with mixed emotions that we share some staffing news as the term draws to a close. After 13 dedicated years at our school, we will sadly be saying goodbye to Mrs. Hewitt, who is leaving to pursue a new career path. Mrs. Hewitt has been an invaluable member of our team, and she will be greatly missed by us all.
We also wish Mr. Jones all the very best as he moves on to a school closer to his home after five years with us. As a key part of our Key Stage 2 team, Mr. Jones will be greatly missed by both the staff and children at Hasting Hill.
Both Mrs Hewitt and Mr Jones have made significant contributions to our school community, and their presence will be a big miss. We wish them both every success in their new ventures!
Attendance
As we head into these final weeks, it's easy to think that learning slows down, but that's simply not the case here at school! We are still incredibly busy with engaging activities and important lessons. Every day counts, and your child's presence in school ensures they continue to benefit from all the exciting learning opportunities we have planned right up until the very last day. Thank you for your continued support in ensuring excellent attendance!
Parent Pay
Thank you for your incredible patience and understanding as we've transitioned to ParentPay! We truly hope you are getting to grips with the system and are beginning to enjoy the many benefits it brings, from easier payments to better tracking. If you are still encountering any difficulties with accessing your account or need a little extra help, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the office staff who will be happy to assist you. We also want to remind you that if you prefer to pay cash into your ParentPay account, we can provide you with a unique barcode that can be used at any shop displaying the PayPoint sign. Please note that you will need a separate barcode for each payment item (e.g., school dinners, breakfast club, or trips). Simply let us know at the office if you would like us to issue a barcode for you.
Assessments
We're incredibly proud of our children for their hard work and dedication in their recent assessments!
Our Year 1 children have truly shone in their Phonics Screening Check, with a fantastic 84% of our children achieving a pass! This is a testament to their efforts and the excellent teaching they've received. Miss Dobbing will be in touch with you in the next couple of weeks to let you know your child's individual results.
Our Year 4 children have also successfully completed their Multiplication Tables Check. While there isn't a formal pass mark for this assessment, we're thrilled to announce that their average score as a group was an impressive 21 out of 25! Well done, Year 4!
Finally, we are eagerly awaiting the Year 6 SATs results, which will be released next week, on Monday, July 8th. As soon as we have these, we'll be in touch with both the children and parents to share their individual outcomes.
Colour Run
Just a friendly reminder that our exciting sponsored Colour Run is fast approaching on Wednesday, July 16th! This is a fantastic opportunity for all pupils to have some colourful fun while helping us raise money for a new sensory pod – a wonderful resource that will greatly benefit our children with sensory needs. For their safety, children must come to school in a white t-shirt and sunglasses on the day. Please also avoid expensive leggings, tracksuit bottoms, or trainers.
A sponsor form and a letter with all the details, including a picture of the sensory pod we're fundraising for, has been sent home. Our ambitious fundraising goal is £8000, and we're asking for a minimum donation of £5 per child, though any contribution you can make would be incredibly grateful. All sponsor money is cash only, and you're welcome to send it in before the event if you have it ready. Please ensure all money is placed in an envelope with your child's name and year group clearly marked. Please return all sponsor money to school no later than Tuesday, July 15th. Let's make this a vibrant success!

We are excited to announce that we are now offering a NEW PE uniform for pupils! This includes branded hoodies, joggers, and leggings.
Please note: The PE uniform is entirely optional. Pupils are still welcome to wear the current PE dress code:
A plain black hoodie (or school jumper)
A white T-shirt
Plain black joggers or leggings
We decided to offer this option after receiving requests from many children for school-branded hoodies. The new PE uniform looks smart, and we’re delighted to give families the option to purchase it if they wish.
