SCHOOL COUNSELOR'S ROLE ON CAMPUS
Weslaco High School academic counselors work to maximize student success, promoting access and equity for all. As vital members of the leadership team, WHS counselors create a school culture for success. WHS counselors lead, advocate, and collaborate by connecting the counseling program to the WHS academic mission and improvement plan.
Weslaco High School Counseling Team
Leadership and Advocacy
The Weslaco High School counseling team works with all stakeholders; administrative team, staff, parents, and community members, to promote and advocate for student academic achievement and social-emotional needs. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) district-wide activities are led by the Counseling department, which offers numerous benefits for students and individuals of all ages to promote emotional awareness, better academic performance, and conflict resolution skills. By integrating SEL into education, the WHS counselors prepare students not just academically, but also nurture their compassion and resiliency to navigate life's challenges.
The Weslaco High School counseling team provides support to students and their families. Students and families can meet with an academic counselor, GEAR UP facilitator, social worker, and/or college and career specialist/advisor based on their individualized needs.
