1st Grade QUEST students will learn and practice scientist skills as they investigate and discover the relationship between various fields of science. Explorations in the fields of botany, entomology, meteorology, oceanography, zoology, and paleontology are evaluated throughout this unit. Students will integrate science, fine arts, and English to create and present their cumulative Texas Performance Standards Project.

These multiple intelligences (smarts) range from the use of words, numbers, pictures and music, to the importance of social interactions, introspection, physical movement and being in tune with nature.

Botany is the scientific study of plants. During this time we learned about the different parts of plants. We discovered that the fruits and vegetables we eat are different parts of plants. We also learned the difference between a deciduous tree and and a conifer tree.

An entomologist is a scientist who studies insects. Entomologists have many important jobs, such as the study of the classification, life cycle, behavior, ecology and population dynamics of insects.
