Summer-College 1st Drones & Rovers Camp
College 1st Health Professions Camp
GEAR UP, in partnership with College 1st, hosted a health professions camp for our 7th grade students! This exciting and hands-on experience was designed for students interested in health-related fields or those eager to explore various medical career paths. Throughout the camp, students received valuable information and practical guidance on several healthcare skills. 🩻They practiced taking each other’s temperature and blood pressure, learned the importance of diagnosing patients, identified different organs and their placement in the human body, and explored the different types of sutures doctors use in surgery. This experience not only sparked curiosity but also helped students begin to envision their future in the medical field. GEAR UP is here to help us inspire the next generation of professionals! 🩺

We were thrilled to welcome our GEAR UP parents to a special workshop led by Mr. Villarreal, Director of College 1st. During the session, Mr. Villarreal shared valuable insights and resources to help parents support and guide their children toward a successful future.⭐
This event reflects our ongoing commitment to building strong partnerships with our students’ families. By working together, we can create the most effective and supportive path for each student’s academic and personal success.

Our Author's Visit: Rey Banda
Our GEAR UP students had an exciting and enriching afternoon with author Rey Banda! 📚During his visit, Mr. Banda shared the inspiration behind each of his books, sparking creativity among our students as they began brainstorming ideas for their own stories. Each student also received a personally autographed copy of one of Mr. Banda's books.
In addition to the literary inspiration, students gained valuable life skills during a fire safety presentation led by Mr. Hernandez from the Weslaco Fire Department. They learned about fire prevention and learned how to properly use a fire extinguisher.🧨
It was a memorable day filled with creativity, learning, and practical knowledge. Thank you to Mr. Banda and Mr. Hernandez for making a lasting impact on our students!🧒
College Tour to Texas A&M Corpus Christi & Texas A&M Kingsville
Our GEAR UP students recently had the exciting opportunity to attend college tours at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi and Texas A&M University–Kingsville. During their visits, students explored a variety of campus departments and facilities, including the advising center, campus library, recreational centers, residence halls, student unions, and more.
This experience gave students a firsthand look at college life and helped them gain valuable insights into academic and campus resources. 🎒

Our GEAR UP students had the opportunity to join our first Leadership Student Conference: Next Generation Leaders: Money, Mindset. 🧠 Students shared their dreams, set meaningful goals, and created actionable plans. They also attended workshops that helped them strengthen their leadership and financial literacy skills. 💰
Our GEAR UP Student Leadership Council has shown commitment through hard work🌟 and dedication to our program. Our student leaders came together to plan for our Teacher Appreciation Day celebration and our lovely Mariachi and Mananitas ♥️event that took place yesterday.
Our GEAR UP Student Leadership Council volunteered at the Middle School District Track Meet on Saturday. Students demonstrated outstanding leadership by managing the concession stand, reinforcing key skills such as communication, critical thinking, and financial literacy. Thank you to our dedicated students for giving their time on a Saturday to showcase their leadership and make the event a success! Great job to all the athletes who competed!

We had a great outcome at our GEAR UP Kickoff event! We want to thank you for your support! We are ready to spread GEAR UP awareness across our 7th grade community at Mary Hoge! Our GEAR UP Student Council is getting ready for our GEAR UP Kickoff taking place this Wednesday! Through their participation in GEAR UP, students will develop important skills like teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and time management. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to grow both as leaders and individuals.
