All WJHS & WHS Students & Parents are invited to attend!

The WHS college Fair will be IN-PERSON at the Eagle Dome on Wednesday, Sept. 27th, 2023 from 9-11am.  Grades 6-12 will be invited at different times throughout the 2 hours.  Please see the flyer below for times. Parents are encouraged to come meet their student at the fair to ask questions and get information from college recruiters.

Students & parents are encouraged to register online and build a profile about themselves based on their college preferences before attending the in-person college fair.  Students and parents that register online will receive a barcode that they can use to share their contact information in place of traditional "info cards".   When the barcodes are scanned by the recruiters, the students will be placed on mailing lists so that they can get information about the college as well as reminders of important deadlines.

Bonus tip: When building your profile, please consider opting-in to the "match-making" feature that will allow TACRAO to share information with similar colleges so they can send information your way. For example: if the student says they like small private school, then various small private schools can collect their information to begin sending them literature in the mail and email communications.

Tips to get the MOST from the College Fair:

1. Make a Game Plan

   • Look at the list of universities that will be there and decide who you want to talk to

   • Check to see if those universities are offering LIVE sessions and make it a priority to "attend" them

   • Make 2 lists of questions:

     1. Information you can find on the website (scholarship/application/housing deadlines, majors, tuition costs, housing options...)

     2. Information you can NOT find on the website, Questions like:

        • What do students like most about your school?

        • What do students like least?

        • Do students mostly live off or on campus?

        • What is the parking situation? 

        • Do I need a bike or scooter to get around campus?

        • What academic programs are the most popular at your school?

        • What neat projects does your major of interest get to do?

        • How would you describe the academic pressure /workload at your school?

        • How does your career planning department help students after graduation?

        • How accessible are the faculty and staff outside of class?

        • Where do students work while they are attending classes?

        • Are there students I can talk to to find out about their experience at your school?

2. Dress & Act appropriately 

   • These recruiters are assigned to our campus and will work with you throughout the admission, financial aid, and registration process.  It's their job to remember YOU, so please make a good impression.  They want to recruit students who look well put together and are serious about their schools.

   • Remember to smile & your manners "Please, Thank You, Yes Ma'am, No Ma'am..."  Act interested in their presentation. 

   • You don't have to dress up like you're going to Prom, but do look presentable... brush your teeth, style your hair, wear nice clothing with nothing offensive on it.

3. Get contact information & use it.

   • Save their information in your contacts list and USE IT. Anytime you have a question, email or call them.  It's literally their job to answer your questions and help you with all things related to attending their university. 

   • Share it with your parents.  They may have questions, it may be their first time dealing with a college, and even if it's not, college admission processes have changed A LOT since they may have attended.  This way they can contact the admissions counselor directly.  

4. Check out a few random schools.

   • Even if they aren't on your list, just see what they are all about.  You might be surprised and find something you really like.

   • Looking at other schools also gives you something to compare your first picks to.

After the College Fair

1. Send a follow up email thanking the recruiters for the information they shared with you & express how excited you are about the possibility of attending their school.

2. Ask if there is a prospective student email mailing list they can add you to to get more information about events for prospective students.

3. Set up a college visit

   1. WHS Juniors & Seniors get 2 excused college visits a year (The College Visit Form is below, just print it out and a representative from the college sign it and bring it back to WHS.)

4. Pat yourself on the back!  You did an amazing job! Talking to new people about the possibilities of your future is a BIG DEAL!  Lot's of people chicken out and never make the jump to even talk to someone about these things!  If you've made it to this step... I'm soooooo PROUD OF YOU!!  Keep on looking for information and asking questions and taking the steps to get you where you want to go and YOU WILL GET THERE! :)
