My research lies at the intersection of education, applied linguistics, and psychology. I am particularly interested in the role that affect (e.g., grit, anxiety, enjoyment) and socio-institutional contexts can have on language educators’ professional experiences and language students’ learning trajectories as well as how those socio-emotional components may impact individuals' cognition (e.g., perceptions, beliefs), behaviors, and well-being within instructed settings. In my dissertation (ongoing), through a mixed-methods approach, I explore the socio-emotional professional experiences (of well-being) of an often overlooked population: Language teachers in the Global South. Most specifically, in the secondary education context in Argentina.
Argentine English-as-a-Foreign-Language (EFL) teachers currently working at the (public or private) secondary level within the education system in Argentina were invited to take an online survey. Through the survey, they shared their insights about their socio-emotional experiences as Argentine EFL teachers and how those may affect their professional well-being as well as their teaching practices. My hope is to use this data to better develop and establish programming to support teachers socio-emotionally. You can find a sample of the flyer I created for the call of participants below.
