'Blitzing in your library or anywhere!
What's blooming, flying, hopping, or maybe just growing around you? This fall, join us for the WiSciFest Bioblitz. Everyone throughout Wisconsin is welcome to join!
What is a Bioblitz?
A Bioblitz is an event to observe, identify, and record as many different, non-domesticated species as possible in a given area over a set period of time.
It's as easy as 1, 2, 3
Register your event with the Wisconsin Science Festival (WSF).
Visit iNaturalist and log in. If new to bioblitzing, it's free to sign up.
You can view the 2025 Wisconsin Science Fest (WiSciFest) Bioblitz project.
You can also host a WiSciFest Bioblitz without using iNaturalist - you just record observations on a worksheet.
When is the WiSciFest Bioblitz?
October 16 to 26, 2025.
How Does a Bioblitz Work?
Some quick hints:
A bioblitz is flexible. It will run during the above dates, and you can join in the fun for any length of time. Your library can host a bioblitz for one hour, one day or the whole week.
You and your patrons can explore and document some wildlife on your library grounds during a one hour program, in one location at the same time everyday or you can set a goal to find something new every day. The bioblitz is completely flexible.
