Individuals who are actively mentoring graduate students, post-docs and/or junior faculty in STEMM (Lab heads/Research Advisors/PIs who function as research mentors) including:
Mentors who want to enrich their practice through an intensive, collaborative exploration of mentorship
Mentors who strive for healthy labs that create a strong sense of belonging for all members and want to feel better equipped to embrace challenges and opportunities that are arise during trainee development
Mentors who want to create more holistic, comprehensive mentorship experiences for faculty, staff, and students
Participants will become a part of a cohort of 20 mentors from across the country who will work in community to deepen their understanding and practice of mentorship
Participants will engage in evidence-based curricula led by national experts in mentorship education
Participants will engage in activities including readings, presentations, small group projects, large and small group discussions, role play, implementation planning, and reflection
Participants will gain knowledge and skills to effectively recognize and address individual and systemic barriers that influence trainee success
Participants will become familiar with and receive resources to evaluate and assess mentorship activities
Participants will leave the program with greater confidence in mentorship based on a set of broadly applicable skills, strategies, toolkits, and plans
CIMER’s Advancing Mentorship Program (CAMP) will run from February 2026 - October 2026 and will consist of 28 total hours of programming. As a cohort, participants will meet monthly online for 2 hours. In May, the cohort will gather for a required 1.5 day in-person meeting in Madison, WI. In between sessions, participants will be expected to do individual, as well as small group, work. See the Schedule Tab for more information on meeting times.
The cost of the program is $8,500. This cost includes lodging, breakfast, and lunch for the required 1.5 day, in-person meeting in Madison, Wisconsin but does not include travel costs (e.g., airfare, ground transportation, parking fees). CIMER is able to offer a limited number of partial need-based scholarships for this program and/or travel expenses that will be discussed during the application process.
