The Association of Asian American Graduate Students (AAAGS) is an organization at UW-Madison for graduate students. Our purpose is to foster the social, academic, and professional growth of our members by sponsoring academic, social, and community events. The organization is dedicated to providing support for graduate students who identify as Asian American. Our leadership team is pictured here. Check out our events calendar, sign up for our weekly emails, or see photos from our various events. If you have a quick question, click on our FAQ page or email the leadership team at uw.aaags (at) gmail (dot) com.

Goals:

  • Build a community of Asian American self-identifying graduate students across the UW-Madison campus
  • Help each other understand Asian American identity
  • Provide professional development opportunities to our members

Why are we here?

As we arrived in Madison from our own respective hometowns, we realized many started to feel culture shock and isolation compared to the experiences of other graduate students. AAAGS is a university-wide community designed to be more social or help create a sense of family: a place for us to unwind from the stress of graduate student life based on our shared experiences. We often talk about various topics like microaggression or dealing with stress from research and teaching. In past years, AAAGS has also coordinated social and racial justice events on campus. AAAGS is a community to help you have a space to hang out in whatever form that suits you. Come join us (and feel free to bring a friend or two) to one (or many) of our events and make new friends outside your department!
