8. Other summer & community events
Hello everyone!
Hope everyone is enjoying the sun and warmer weather, and experiencing as much of Madison's summer activities as possible. We enjoyed ourselves paddle boarding on Lake Monona, we hope to see more of you next time. This is another exciting bi-weekly email full of events for the upcoming weeks!
1. August monthly dinner
Monthly Dinner at Ramen Station at 7pm. Located at 1124 S Park St, Madison, WI 53715. Accessible by 4, 13, and 47 bus lines from campus. Please contact us if you want to attend so we can get an accurate headcount!
2. AAAGS helps to make Madison Resource Guide
We were recently contacted by MGN to assist in curating an AAAGS guide to Madison. We did start with our own Restaurant Guide to Asian restaurants in the area, but we are a bit lacking in other destinations like stores that sell some specific ingredients, places that can cut Asian hair, and more. If you have the time, please feel free to post about any destinations that you have in mind that can help as a resource for future graduate students.
3. Other UW events
4. MGN APIDA Grad student and Faculty Mixer
Sept 18: MGN Asian Grad and Faculty Mixer 4-6:30 pm at Union South
5. MGN/UHS Multicultural Graduate Student Support Group, Mondays 5:30-6:30
The promised MGN-UHS collaborative multicultural graduate student support group has dates scheduled from June to December! They'll meet approximately every other Monday from 5:30-6:30pm at the Multicultural Student Center in the Red Gym. A licensed mental health therapist who identifies as a POC will loosely facilitate this student-led group. All graduate students are welcomed, especially those seeking community or space to process experiences as minoritized students on the UW campus. They have a Facebook event, with more specifics as to dates, but dates can also be found in the AAAGS Google Calendar if you want to be more anonymous? There should be a button in the bottom right of the calendar to add our public calendar to your own personal calendar.
6. Getting more involved with AAAGS
Do you like reading our frequent emails? Do you enjoy the events we've hosted this year? There are more ways to be involved with AAAGS as we hold additional leadership position elections. Maybe there is a new book you want to share and discuss (book club), or even a movie (movie night), a drink or other games too (game night). We're also great taste testers if there is a new dish you are trying out and would like to share (potluck parties). Or there are other events you're interested in, and seeking new friends to go with (social events). Message us via the Facebook page or through email if you would be interested in learning more about how you can get involved.
7. Feedback
Our leadership team is always looking for your feedback! Please let us know your thoughts on this spreadsheet.
8. Other networking events
Come meet our new friends from KSEA (Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association) at Middleton Sport Bowling from 9-11PM on the last Tuesday of the month. They have their monthly bowling social event, and it will be a great opportunity to meet new people and learn more about KSEA - UW Chapter. It's only $1 per game and for shoe rentals!
Please send us feedback about our events! We will be sending out surveys at the end of the month to see how people feel about the month's events, but you can send us feedback any time through the link in our signature.
