The Y7 Spelling Bee Competition took place on the penultimate day of this term, on December 11th. Three Y7 EU language students competed with their counterparts from KGV, YCIS and STC at the WIS auditorium. It was a fulfilling experience for the students, and a thrilling one for people spectating.
The competition consisted of 1 minute rounds, where one student would come on to the stage and would listen to randomly selected English words and translate them into Spanish before spelling them out word-for-word. The student with the most words correctly translated and spelled out will win the round.
Shout-out to our WIS students who participated in this competition (in no particular order):
Jeremy Ho
Jens Schuette
Isabella Wu
Tinsley Yu
Quincy Lam
Eva Prakash
Daisy Yuen
Here is what one of our WIS participants has to say about the competition:
“I enjoyed doing the spelling bee a lot. I learned so much from this experience, like learning new vocabulary. It was amazing to do it in front of people to show how much hard work we have done and how much we have learned. This is one of my favorite things I have done in year 7 and I hope to participate in a Spanish competition in year 8 too.”
