Year 7
During Year 7, we first start by choosing our European Languages, which are Spanish or French. We learn lots of basics during Year 7, like the alphabet, numbers, dates, and birthdays. There are many units in Year 7, which are Una nueva lengua, un nuevo mundo, Somos unicos y unicas, and Esta es mi escuela, which translates to A new language, a new world, We are unique, and this is my school. You also learn the basic endings for the present tense, which helps you to go on in Year 8 Spanish.
During unit 1, you will most likely learn the basics like numbers, alphabet, dates, simple words, and sentences. Down here, you will see the alphabet and how to say it. Below here, you will also see some numbers and the 12 months, you will see the colours in Spanish, and we will talk about Dia De Los Muertos, which is the Day of the Dead.
In Unit 2, we will be looking at our unique differences like Nationalities, height, weight, looks, and many other things. We will also be learning about ways to say our family, and we will have a look at our family tree. We will be looking at our pets and what we like about them, and ways to describe them. In Unit 3, we will be talking about our school, what we learn, and why it’s good. We will be looking at how to say our subjects, times, and words related to school. We will be making a video at the end of the unit for the next year 7s and giving a tour of what we can do in school, where things are, and ways to have fun, and we will be writing our timetable in Spanish. Year 8
During Year 8, we will start by recapping what we learnt in Year 7 so which leads on to the first unit of the year. There are many units in Year 8, which are Me gusta mi tiempo libre, Mi casa es tu casa, and Soy lo que como, which translates to I like my free time, My house is your house, and You are what you eat. You also learn the imperfect tense Spanish endings, which helps you to go on in Year 9 Spanish.
In unit 1, it will be about what we like to do in our free time, which will include sports, ways to say time, ways and talk about the week, and how to use verbs and adjectives to describe what you are doing. Below are some examples.
In Unit 2, we will be talking about our houses. We will be describing it by talking about its look, the rooms, what's inside, who's living with you, and so much more. We will be using the imperfect tense the most because we will be talking about our houses in the past and present. Below are some examples.
Finally, in unit 3, we will be talking about foods around the world, like what people eat in Spain, the USA, England, Korea, Sweden, or Hong Kong. We will be learning about ways to say the 3 meals of the day, different types of food, the food groups, the times, and much more. Below are examples:
Year 9
In Year 9 Spanish, it is where you learn a lot because it is just before IGCSE. You will be learning about past tense, imperfect tense, conditional tenses, future tense, and present tense. During Year 9, you will be looking at many different Units like Cuentos y leyendas, Avances tecnicos y etica, Ciudadano global, which translates to My Cultural Preferences, Technical advances and ethics, and Global citizen.
During Unit 1, you will be learning and talking about your past self when you were little, you will talk about your music taste and what you like about it, you will be describing your younger self, and at the end, you will be talking about environmental problems in a country of your choice.
