This week-long activity will feature activities such as Coasteering, Kayaking, Canyoning and Water filtration, raft building, plus orienteering and team activities. You will work as a team as you embrace the challenges and expeditions put in front of you. Team work will be of the essence in this truly amazing outdoor experience.

Physical Challenge Excitement

Drama with Faust -This is a mask-on activity -school based

Cost: HK$2,380 per student

Faust International Youth Theatre will bring acting, directing and production challenges
to students in a week long course! Students will be staging a play using devising and scripts based on students’ preferences and create a performance that can be streamed live, videoed and or performed live based on guidelines provided by the school. Specific skills range from devising, directing and creating performance pieces, vocal and body expression, script writing, marketing and backstage work.


Pottery in Peng Chau -This is a mask-on activity -

Cost: HK$1,820 per student

During this activity, you will visit an artist's studio and learn how to use the wheel.

Every day you will take the ferry to beautiful Peng Chau and work alongside others in a beautiful rural setting. At the end of the week you will fire your creations to be able to keep them forever.


Creative Writing and Book Publishing -This is a mask-on activity -school based

Cost: HK$4,970 per student

The topic for this Horizons Week:

What would a caveman do on the MTR? What would a knight think about mobile phones? In this creative writing and book publishing workshop, the past and present collide as characters are suddenly transported to the future. Besides describing the chaos that ensues, students will learn to utilize historical information to show how people from the past interact and cope with today’s world.

Are you a budding author?

Ever dreamed of publishing a book? Join Elephant Community Press's creative writing and book publishing workshop during Horizons Week to study a particular genre of story, and then plan and write your own to be published in an anthology with other students. Students will learn to draft, revise and edit a story like real authors do, and the final books (published in Jan 2023) will be sold to raise funds to support a charity and are also circulated in HK Public Libraries.


Baking Maniac - During this activity at Baking Maniac's studio in Wong Chuk Hang, students will cover a variety of baking techniques and learn how to frost, sculpt, layer and decorate. -This is a mask-on activity and students need to be vaccinated

Want to develop your abilities with unique and meaningful challenges? Professional instructors will guide participants to the Sai Kung marine area using SUP (Stand Up Paddle Board), teach them how to use the SUP properly and safely, explore the “Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark“ and other unique landscapes, as well as improve their awareness of ocean conservation and environmental sustainability.

Cooking in style

In this practical course, students will visit TownGas cooking center where they will learn how to cook many different cuisines across the week from Thai food, to Japanese cake making and Italian specialities.

Hollywood Hong Kong -This is a mask-on activity, school based and Filming outdoors around HK

Cost: HK$4,980 per student

In this activity, students will be challenged to identify and race each other to a shooting location featured in an iconic movie shot in Hong Kong, and produce an original short film at the same location over 5 days.

Film-Making

Want to take part in a unique filmmaking challenge? Students in Hong Kong may not realize this, but our city’s landscape has inspired numerous filmmakers from around the world featuring often in Hollywood blockbusters like Dr. Strange, Godzilla vs. Kong, and The Dark Knight. Students will be guided by experienced filmmakers from Babel Film Workshop, and learn about the professional filmmaking process to create their short films based on creative prompts. Students also have the option to sign-up as a production group of 3-5 if they’d like to be in the same crew. Completed films will be screened and considered for a Best Film and Audience Award.

Hiking in Beautiful Hong Kong

Ever wondered what the Wilson or Hong Kong trails are? ever seen the view of Hong kong from one of its highest peaks? ever walked the Dragon’s Back? Find out more about your own backyard and how green it really is.

Get outdoors and experience the real gems of Hong Kong. Each day will be a different hike along the many trails this wondering land has to offer. The hikes will begin gently and become progressively more challenging as you get accustomed to the walks. We will be meeting at different starting points each day, ready to hit the trails.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Packed lunches are needed as well as a charged up Octopus Card to use the public transport as students need to travel independently to and from hike meeting and finishing locations.

Students travel independently to start and finish locations therefore need to have money/octopus for ferries and buses.

Exploration and design

Students will end with an impressive physical and virtual exhibition, that they will present to viewers, emotionally and technically.

The week will consist of understanding where influences come from, how idea form and how to get to the end image. The students will start to create their own stories and bodies of work through the lens, eventually working toward a final piece to display and discuss.

You will see the students research and experiment with photography, creativity and find influences, unfolding through a sketch book of ideas.

Learning new techniques

The course will have support booklets to refer to throughout and at later dates when the student wants to strengthen their new found skill.

Technical knowledge of the cameras working will cover shutter speed, iso, aperture, light metering, lenses and how shape, colour, mood, story and relevance of subjects create images.

The workshop will cover the main elements of photography needed to gain the knowledge of a photographers working world, from ideas and influences to technical knowledge, to discussions of each other’s work, through to framing their own piece and presenting it at an exhibition.

During this art activity you will take inspiration from local nature by visiting a local beach and taking photographs and collecting shells and rocks to use in the week. You will then create your designs and print them using a variety of techniques.

Diwali celebrations have a longstanding tradition at WIS. After a Pandemic hiatus, this year Horizon's week gives performers a chance to rehearse and create a show worthy of Bollywood itself.

In this intermediate course, students will learn to use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build games that can be played on both desktop and mobile devices.

This course is designed for students who have had prior experience with HTML, CSS, andJavaScript.Using the BSD Online learning platform, students will build a total of five different games — a platformer, a trac game, a nonogram puzzle game, a battle game, and a jumping game.

Students will develop fundamental skills in programming, learn about game development and design, and explore how to add further customizations to their projects.

Code Your Own World with VR

Working with BSD , This course is designed for students who have had prior experience with HTML, CSS, andJavaScript.Using the BSD Online learning platform, students will build a total of five different games — a platformer, a trac game, a nonogram puzzle game, a battle game, and a jumping game.


Code the Future with Artificial Intelligence

AI is a part of our future. There is no better time to start learning the inner workings of how it functions and powers the world around us.

Students will learn about the design and programming behind modern digital assistant softwares like Alexa, Siri, and Cortana and explore the technology powering in-car navigation.

Students will use Machine Learning and code to develop and train their own AI personality that can answer questions, complete requests, and chat about topics of their choice

We will travel to the beating heart and far corners of Hong Kong, explore the most iconic places and discover how they continue to define our great city.” Students will move around Hong Kong on a study of Heritage buildings, iconic food, transport methods old and new, redevelopment and a visit to some of hong kong's finest buildings to hear from experts.

Rowing and Sailing - RHKYC -This is a mask-off activity, however to enter the premises you would need to be fully vaccinated'

Cost: HK$4,830 per student

Held at the iconic HKRYC Middle Island at Deep water Bay, this is a stunning spot to immerse yourself in sailing and rowing throughout the week. You will be led through drills and training by a set of instructors who will help you to improve your skill s throughout the week.

***Please note that the minimum age for sailing is 11 years old and that for rowing/paddling is 12 years old. You must be able to confidently swim 50 meters to take this activity

Horse Riding & Stable Management at Lo Wu -This is a mask-off activity, however to enter the premises you would need to be fully vaccinated'

Learn new skills

In this very popular activity students can learn to ride or improve their skills at the Lo Wu Horse stables.

For those more experienced, you will gain further skills and knowledge in both horse care and riding. You will have the chance to develop your knowledge on how to care for a competition horse; you will also get the chance to develop your flatwork and jumping techniques to a higher level. Show these off at our end of week competition!


Interact with Horses and ponies

For new riders, learn the basic skills needed to handle and ride horses with confidence in a fun friendly atmosphere. You can learn how to groom, lead and care for your horse developing a firm bond with these incredible animals. You will also learn to ride them, with a chance to show off your newly learnt skills at the end of the week!
