The Learning Lab at the Winthrop Grade School is a support system for our students as they work to develop their reading, writing and/or math skills. At each grade level at WGS, students are required to meet specific levels of performance for essential skills. If a child does not meet those levels of performance on any particular skill, then the Learning Lab will be ready to work with that child until performance is improved.
What does this mean for your child? If your child needs support with foundational reading skills, we will provide the extra time and instruction needed to develop the skills. We will work with your child in a small group 2-5 days a week for 20-30 minutes depending on need. They will not be pulled from any essential new instruction in the classroom. This instruction will be in addition to their classroom reading and /or math instruction.
The Learning Lab program is funded by Title 1A which is a federal educational program. It is a privilege to have this assistance available. Your child’s classroom teacher will call you if any assessment indicates that Learning Lab assistance would be beneficial for your child. Please do not hesitate to call any time you have questions regarding skills your child is working on, their progress, or how you can support their growth at home.
