Welcome to Health & Wellness Class!
My name is Mrs. Durkee and this is my third year teaching Health & Wellness at the Winthrop Middle School. Previously, I taught ELA & Social Studies for 10 years at WMS before taking off a few years to be home with my children. I am loving being back teaching Health and Wellness! I believe it is a vital class for students as the topics covered help us develop skills and habits that will help us navigate through life!
Students are expected to arrive to class prepared and ready to learn every day. Students should bring a pencil to class daily and bring in a folder (that I will keep in the classroom to store their work). Students will be graded based on their engagement in class (effort, participation, attitude and respect) and in-class projects.
Skills covered in Health class:
Decision Making & Problem Solving
Self-Management & Goal Setting
Social Awareness, Relationship, & Communication
Movement skills
Self-Awareness & Analyzing Influences
Information & Resource Seeking
Self-Advocacy & Health Promotion
Topics by grade are listed below.
I am looking forward to getting to know everyone! I will do my best to make lessons interesting, fun, and engaging!
Thank you and I look forward to a great quarter!
