Winthrop Public Schools is excited to use ParentSquare as our districtwide communication platform for families. ParentSquare provides one convenient place for parents and guardians to stay connected with their child’s school and the district.

Through ParentSquare, families can receive school and district announcements, important alerts, classroom updates, event information, and messages from teachers and staff. ParentSquare also offers two-way communication and automatic translation, making it easier for all families to stay informed and connected.

Our goal is to make communication simple, consistent, and accessible by providing families with one primary platform for school communications.

This site provides resources to help you get started with ParentSquare, download the app, manage your account and notification preferences, and find answers to frequently asked questions.

Getting Started with ParentSquare

As we continue implementing ParentSquare across Winthrop Public Schools, we appreciate the patience and support of our families. Our goal is for ParentSquare to provide one consistent and convenient place for families to stay informed and communicate with their child’s school and teachers.

While using the ParentSquare app is not required, we strongly encourage all parents and guardians to:

1. Download the ParentSquare App

The free ParentSquare app is available through the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

2. Activate Your ParentSquare Account

Parents and guardians should activate their ParentSquare account using the email address or phone number associated with their child in PowerSchool. Keeping your contact information current in PowerSchool helps ensure that you receive communications from your child’s school and Winthrop Public Schools.

What Can I Do with ParentSquare?

ParentSquare makes it easier for families to stay connected with their child’s school. With ParentSquare, you can:

Receive district, school, and classroom announcements by email, text message, or app notification
Receive communications in your preferred language
Choose how and when you receive notifications
Communicate directly with teachers and school staff
Reply to messages and participate in two-way communication
View important school updates, reminders, events, and other information
Access communications from your computer or mobile device

Choose How You Receive Notifications

Once your ParentSquare account is activated, you can customize your notification preferences. You can choose whether you would like to receive communications through email, text, and/or the ParentSquare mobile app.

You can also select how frequently you receive notifications:

Instant: Receive notifications as messages are posted.
Digest: Receive non-urgent messages together in one daily summary, typically delivered in the evening.
Off: Turn off routine notifications for a selected communication method and check ParentSquare when it is convenient for you.

Important: Urgent alerts and emergency communications may still be delivered immediately regardless of your regular notification preferences. This may include important districtwide messages such as school cancellations.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up for ParentSquare?

To log in, go to ParentSquare's website. You can begin by using the phone number or email that WPS has on file. Or, download the app from Apple or Google and get started that way.

From there, we suggest you adjust your notification settings.

I received an activation reminder. What should I do?

Periodically, the district or your school will send activation reminders to parents who have not activated their ParentSquare accounts.

Open the invitation email or text. Click Activate your account or tap the link to activate your account.
Create a Password for your ParentSquare account and click Register.
Click Confirm for your phone number and/or email. A verification code will be sent to the email or phone number.
Enter the verification code to confirm.
Confirm your child or children by clicking Confirm. Use “Not My Child” if a child listed is not associated with yours.
Select "Yes, This is Me" when you have confirmed your contact information and child(ren) associated with your account.
If you are both a parent and staff member, and you are asked to "merge accounts," please do so.

My email is correct in ParentSquare. Why am I not receiving emails?

Check your spam folder to see if any ParentSquare messages ended up there, and mark them as “Not Spam.”
Add donotreply@parentsquare.com to your email contacts so your server recognizes our messages.
If you still are not receiving emails, please contact support@parentsquare.com so they can assist you.

To update your email address or phone number, parents/guardians should call the main office of your child's school. Staff should update their contact information in Powerschool. You cannot update your contact information directly in ParentSquare.

How do I update my contact information in ParentSquare?

If you discover that your contact information, including phone number or email, is incorrect or out of date in ParentSquare, you can update it one of the following ways:

Parents: Call the main office of your school to have the office update your contact information in PowerSchool, or update your information on your own in Powerschool It will automatically sync with ParentSquare overnight after you make the change.

How do I add a student who's missing from my account?

If you are missing a child/school, it may be because:

Your contact information does not match what we have in Powerschool
You have more than one ParentSquare account with different contact information

To add a child or school:

Contact your school’s office to update your contact information in Powerschool and make sure it is the same for all your children.

Staff Members Who Are Also Parents

As a staff member and a parent, you will be able to have both your staff contacts and your parent contacts linked to the same account. Please "merge/combine" accounts.

If you have a district-issued staff email on your staff record and a personal email address on your parent record, multiple accounts may have been created for you.
If you already have the same phone listed on your staff and parent accounts, your accounts can be easily linked. The accounts will merge automatically once you complete the verification process and confirm both accounts. After this, both emails will be listed on your account, but you will be required to use your staff email to log in.
If you already have separate registered accounts under different emails/phones, you can use the Combine Account option to merge them together.

How do I add another parent or guardian on my child's ParentSquare account?

If the additional parent is not listed as a guardian, the additional parent or guardian will need to create a Powerschool account if they do not have one. If that is not the issue, please contact the school.

How do I reset my ParentSquare password?

Go to ParentSquare and on the login page click “Forgot Password.”
Put in your email or phone number and you will be sent a link to reset your password.

Why does my ParentSquare account have my spouse's or co-parent's name on it?

If you and your spouse/co-parent share an email address, only one of you will be able to log in to ParentSquare using that email address.

The other person should use their cell phone number to log on.

We recommend that each parent/guardian have their own cell phone or email for emergency situations.

You can update your contact information by contact your school’s main office to be assisted in updating your contact information in Powerschool.

I am getting too many messages from ParentSquare, what can I do?

If you feel you are receiving too many messages from ParentSquare, we advise you to log into your account and visit “Notification Settings,” then select “Digest.” Then, make sure “School Alerts” is selected as “On.”

By doing this, you will receive all notifications at about 6:00 PM with the exceptions of “School Alerts,” which are also called “Smart Alerts” and are intended for important information. The most serious emergency alerts are called “Urgent Alerts,” which cannot be disabled; you will receive Urgent Alerts regardless of your settings as these are intended to be used sparingly and only in time-sensitive situations.

You also have the option to select “Off” in Notification Settings, but to keep “School Alerts” selected “On.”

You have three options for how often you receive notifications:

Instant: Receive all messages instantly
Digest: Receive all messages together in one daily communication around 6 PM.*
Off: No notifications are sent.*

*Please note: Regardless of your notification settings, you will continue to receive Urgent Alerts, Attendance Notifications, and Auto Notices instantly.

How do I sent a message to my child's teacher?

Please note that WPS is transitioning to ParentSquare during the 26-27 school year, and some educators may be less responsive than you might hope for. We are working toward a goal of having ParentSquare fully implemented as soon as possible. If you have concerns about a teacher's responsiveness or activity on ParentSquare, please contact the school principal.

Contact your child’s teacher privately by using the direct messaging tool.

On the web, you can click “Messages” in the left sidebar and start a direct conversation by clicking “New Message”. On the ParentSquare App, you can tap on “+” sign to start a new message.
You will see their child’s teacher and group owners in the quick-select recipients’ box at the top of the page. Or, you can type the first three letters of a name in the recipient box for other users to auto-populate.
From here, you can send a direct message to your child’s teacher that only you and the teacher can see. You can also send messages to other staff members at the school, such as your child’s coaches and club leaders.
