My name is Amy Brierley, and I am fortunate to be the Eagles Team ELA teacher at WMS. Although I have been an educator for 29 years, the 2023/2024 school year was my very first in the Winthrop Public Schools! For the last two years, I've witnessed the hard work and perseverance of my students, ultimately resulting in strong academic progress and success for them.
I am a lifelong resident of Peabody, where I live with my 21-year-old son, Ryn, and my tortie cat, Kira. I am an alumnus of Emerson College (BS in Theatre Education, 1996) and Salem State University (MAT in English Education, 2002). For 27 years, I taught both elementary school Drama and middle school ELA in the Waltham Public Schools. In my free time, I love to read, sing, shop, and play games and puzzles. I also am an avid theatregoer, performer, and a proud alto/soloist in my church's chancel choir.
I am thrilled to now be teaching in Winthrop, helping to prepare 8th Graders to enter high school with the creative, comprehension, and communication skills necessary to be curious about the world, as well as convey their thoughts and opinions about their place in it. My middle school ELA classroom is a safe place where they will learn and practice those skills with their peers. I seek to infuse students with the independence and motivation they will need to be successful in their final years of school, as well as throughout the rest of their lives.
