LIBRARY RESOURCES

  • WHS Online Library Catalog

  • Search the catalog to find both fiction & non-fiction books, reference materials, DVDs, and technology equipment.

  • Students should use their log-ins to check due dates, overdue fines, and create reading wish lists.

WHS students & staff are able to request interlibrary loan materials for personal or educational work. The following video is a short tutorial on how to access the website and request materials.

Going Beyond Google

While it has become second nature to open Google and begin searching, there are other resources that could get students access to quality information they can rely on for any inquiry their teacher poses. Consider checking these sites before "googling it".

www.refseek.com -- This academic resource boasts more than five billion documents ranging from encyclopedias, monographies, journals, and newspapers. It's primary goal is to make academic level information more visible than the "sponsored" links and commercial hits that seem to rise to the top of the Google algorithm.

https://link.springer.com/ -- The tag line for this source is "Over 10 million scientific documents at your fingertips". It provides access to scholarly articles, videos (not a huge selection), and books covering an impressive range of disciplines from biomedicine to economics to public health to psychology.

www.science.gov -- This site's mission is to help users access federal science information searching across different federal agencies within one search box. it boasts access to over 200 million pages of authoritative content from agencies ranging from the USDA to the National Library of Medicine to the Department of Homeland Security to NASA.

www.base-search.net -- According to the US Department of Commerce, BASE is a search engine created and maintained by Bielfeld University Library. It incorporates similar sorting tools to that of Google Scholar, but has a lot more bang for its buck. It provides both basic search and advance search options to allow students to focus their inquiries, bringing them closer to the right resources for their questions.

loc.gov -- The online portal of the Library of Congress is ever-growing and provides access to both scholarly articles along with the opportunity to view and study thousands upon thousands of primary documents on various topics of American history, performing arts, science and technology, and more. Using this site does take a bit of trial and error, mostly because of its sheer depth of information and coverage.
