The average GAD-7 score indicated mild anxiety symptoms with a score of 8.33; however, individual scores ranged from minimal to severe anxiety. Two participants scored within the moderate anxiety range, and one participant scored within the severe range, suggesting significant anxiety symptoms in half of the sample.
MAIA results showed strong emotional awareness and low reactivity, but reduced body awareness, attention, and self-regulation. This suggests a disconnect between cognitive insight and embodied interoception. Variability across domains highlights imbalances, particularly between emotional regulation and body listening, supporting use of the MAIA as a clinical guide for targeted, body-based interventions.
The mean QPFQ score was 20.5/112, indicating mild overall symptom burden, though scores varied (4–28). Bladder and sexual function domains showed the greatest impact, with reports of urgency, incontinence, pain, and reduced satisfaction. Prolapse symptoms were minimal, highlighting variability and greater concern in urinary and sexual function.
Participants demonstrated a consistent increase on the investigator-designed pre/post survey assessing participants' confidence in understanding pelvic floor function, nervous system regulation, and the relationship between interoception and pelvic health. Pre-workshop confidence averages ranged from 1.83 to 2.66, whereas post-workshop averages increased to 3.66 to 4.33, indicating a substantial upward shift across all domains, ultimately resulting in statistical significance (t(4) = 2.13, p ≤ .00022). Comparisons of each score are shown in the table. All calculated differences were positive (range: 1.34 to 2.33), reflecting that post-workshop scores were higher than pre-workshop scores for every question. The magnitude of change suggests meaningful improvement in a single-session workshop.
The table above illustrates changes in average confidence levels across five items in the pre- and post-workshop questionnaires. These items assessed participants’ confidence in their understanding of pelvic floor function, nervous system regulation, and the relationship between interoception and pelvic health. Confidence was measured using a Likert scale (1 = not at all confident; 5 = extremely confident), enabling comparison of pre- and post-intervention scores to evaluate perceived knowledge acquisition and self-efficacy related to the workshop content.
Participants described a clear, bidirectional relationship between emotional states and pelvic floor symptoms, highlighting how nervous system regulation directly influences symptom experience.
While traditional medical care provided some relief, participants consistently reported that it did not fully address their educational needs or support a more holistic approach to healing.
Engagement in the workshop enhanced participants’ understanding of nervous system dysregulation and pelvic floor function, leading to improved confidence and self-management strategies.
Participants demonstrated increased self-awareness and a stronger sense of self-advocacy, actively seeking knowledge and using cognitive reframing to better understand and manage their experiences.
Both physical and emotional symptoms contributed to strain across daily roles, affecting lifestyle habits, social participation, and activities of daily living (ADLs).
