a token economy is a currency system in which your child purchases rewards using tokens earned for desired behaviors
you can give your child tokens for any challenging behavior (e.g., laying back for you to brush their teeth, opening their mouth when asked, or completing oral care independently)
tokens can be plastic coins, poker chips, real coins, or paper tokens (see below for printable tokens)
be very clear about the number of tokens your child needs to purchase the desired reward, as well as what behavior earns tokens
Examples
Each time a child completes their oral care routine, they get to color a tooth on their chart (see below). When the chart is completely colored, the child gets an extension on bedtime.
Each time the child lays down for you to floss their teeth, they earn a plastic coin. When the child has 20 plastic coins, they can have Chick-fil-A for dinner.
