Solution

The Rekit

The ReKit is a product for giving the homeless the hygiene they deserve. It is a faster, more inexpensive product than the current methods out there today. In this design we have provided a 12 cabinet box each containing a different type of hygiene product, to reduce the amount of diseases. Each box will have a drawer that can be easily opened by pulling a ring like object. We have created prototype this by crafting 2 hexagons that making a big layer, and making a small layer. Benjamin Samuel designed this on Tinkercad; a platform to create 3D shapes and designs. Then we sent the file to the 3D printer and waited 6 hours until it is finished. The Tinkercad model is on the left. Our model for refilling the Rekit is a monthly schedule that people in the community, local schools, and organizations will help donate products for the housed people at Union Rescue Mission.

Steps to Solve

Research: Before knowing about some of the reason behind homelessness we decided to research the problem, we chose hygiene because it is such a basic thing we take for granted.

Find existing solutions: When getting our idea approved we decided to look at other solutions such as hygiene kits, public restrooms, access to running water, and more.

Create our own solution; We decided that one of the flaws in the hygiene kit is how it it doesn't meet the eye. Additionally to serve the problem we decided to make it more organised and have a not on the top to make them happy or feel loved.

Prototype creation: When making a prototype we need to make sure we don’t t waste money, Knowing that we manufactured it out of filament (the material 3d printers use). Additionally we worked with our team to create the perfect prototype on tinkercad (an app for designing a 3d print)
