Many children with autism struggle with noise sensetivity and over simulation. Autism disorder is a large spectrum disorder and many people have a different experices with their autism.
RESEARCH AND DEFINE
Our group researched a lot and filled out many different research froms to figure out what would be most benefitial to our client and our specific barrier community. Our client megan has a child with autism and she knows what would be helpful to our community and what would not. We made sure to do a lot of research so we could get s better grasp on a community that none of us are a part of so we could be as helpful as possible and give the most effective product results.
IDEATE
Throughout our CBL process we have gone through a lot of ideas. First we thought we would make an invention for the safety of women, but then we thought that that would be too broad of a topic, so we made the switch to working on an invention for children with autism. Luke knows a child autism advocate and met with her to help brainstorm and talk through many differnet ideas to discuse what would be good to add to our idea board and what might not work well.
TEST, ITERATE, IMPLEMENT
We decided to try to make full earpieces that are affordable and comfortable for kids, but after many struggles for time, and proper materials we decided to shift inventions. After meeting with Kevin and Megan, our client, we decided that we would switch ideas to covers of generic earbuds and airpods, that are quick and easy to take on the go, and comfortable to a childs ear. We want to focus on making a product that is as comfortable it can be, and is as undetectable as possible so no child feels like they are standing out a lot more than others in a way that they do not want to be. We made a lot of protoypes throughout the prototype portion of the project, and finally came up with a final one. We made many prints of similar prototypes and printed them in amfew different filments and colors. We finally put a prototype into action and tried it on and tested many times. After we made sure that our prototype worked we put it into action, amd showed it off at the community forum to our community, friends and parents.
