Stone, clay, and color pigments available in the area would determine the style of art created. Elaborate art was often created for rulers and those of high social classes, and it would show their power and wealth.
The Egyptian hieroglyphs, or symbols and drawings on tombs and temples tell religious stories and about the pharaohs’ lives.
Greek artists created lifelike sculptures of gods, athletes, and heroes, focusing on beauty and proportion.
Thousands of life-sized clay soldiers buried in China, represent the army of the first Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi.
Elaborate carvings on Mayan temples depicted gods, rulers, and scenes from daily life.
