8th Grade Overview

This is your year, 8th graders!  It’s time to “turn the page” as you conclude your middle school education. Your year is sure to be exciting, as your teachers present you with challenges while you lead the middle school.  Learning is in your hands as you explore lessons by taking them to the next level, refining your foundations and making critical applications. To prepare for the year, please review this information to meet our expectations of an 8th grade student.

Curriculum Overview

Your 8th grade curriculum is integrated across the curriculum, showcasing to you that learning exists in every instance.   You can expect increased rigor in your lessons, requiring much independent learning, analyses, and application of skills as we prepare you for high school. As 21st century learners, you’ll be required to put the concepts of the 4 C’s: communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking into practice regularly, springboarding you into the future.

Theme

In your 8th grade year, you begin “turning a page” into a new chapter in your lives as you learn to take on leadership roles. Curriculum focuses on you “taking a stand” on issues, learning to develop logical arguments, and refining communication and presentation skills. You will be challenged to think critically and put your learning into a global view, often connecting lessons between subjects. At year end, you will present your “Turning a Page” project to a faculty panel.
