Rationale

The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) was developed in 1990 and continues today to monitor certain risky health behaviors and other priority areas among school-aged youth and young adults. Data collected through the anonymous, biennial, and voluntary Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) allows for the YRBSS to determine the prevalence of risky health behaviors; assess general trends health behaviors over time, examine the co-occurrence of health behaviors; provide comparison data for geographies and subpopulations; and monitor progress toward achieving Healthy People objectives and program indicators.
