As we move through the term, it is vital to regularly revisit the foundations of our warm, supportive, and effective learning environment. This week, our whole-school assembly was a wonderful opportunity for us to reflect on what it truly means to be a valued member of the Wincham Community.
We focused on the three core pillars that underpin all of our school life—from the Early Years classroom right up to Year 6—and which were highlighted as a real strength in our recent 'Good' Ofsted inspection: Respect.
In a lively and reflective session, we discussed what these three simple rules look like in action every single day:
Respect Ourselves: This is about understanding that we are all enough and recognising our own value and potential. It means trying our best, staying safe, taking care of our health, and having the confidence to speak up and participate. Our pupils agreed that being kind to yourself is the first step to being kind to others!
Respect Each Other: At Wincham, we know every child and family, and this pillar is the heart of our community ethos. It means using kind words, showing empathy for the feelings of others, listening attentively to our teachers and peers, and celebrating the wonderful diversity in our school and the wider world. It is the reason our pupils behave so well and are so happy here.
Respect Property and the Environment: This covers everything from looking after our fantastic classroom resources and equipment to keeping our playground tidy and our school building pristine. It is also about our role as active citizens, understanding the importance of looking after the world around us—a value we explore through everything from our curriculum to our incredible link with our partner school in Kenya.
We find that when we all sing from the same hymn sheet, the impact is even greater! Please take a few minutes this week to chat with your child about what 'Respect' means to them in the context of school and at home. Reinforcing these values helps us to maintain the positive, purposeful, and nurturing atmosphere that makes Wincham such a special place to learn, grow, and dream.
Thank you for your continued support in helping your child develop into the well-rounded, capable, and responsible young person we know they can be.
We are absolutely bursting with pride this week, celebrating the phenomenal success of one of our wonderful Year 5 pupils who recently competed in a highly demanding regional gymnastics competition in Newcastle-upon-Tyne!
It was an incredibly tough competition, demonstrating determination, focus, and amazing skill throughout the day. The commitment to her sport outside of school is truly inspiring and perfectly reflects the values of dedication and ambition we promote every day here at Wincham.
We are thrilled to report that there was success on every single apparatus she competed on!
🥇 1st Place: Beam
🥈 2nd Place: Floor
🥉 3rd Place: Vault
🥉 3rd Place: Bars
This consistent excellence across all events earned her a fantastic 2nd Place All-Around title! This means she was the runner-up overall across the entire competition. What an incredible achievement!
At Wincham Community Primary School, we believe in supporting the whole child, ensuring pupils are happy, capable, and responsible young people. Celebrating achievements like this reminds us that learning, growing, and dreaming together extends far beyond the classroom walls.
Wincham Community Primary School will be joining schools across the nation to celebrate Maths Week England from Monday 15th - Friday 21st November!
Maths Week England is a fantastic national initiative dedicated to showing everyone that mathematics is fun, creative, and relevant to everything we do! It's an opportunity for us to go beyond the curriculum and celebrate the wonder of numbers and how they shape the world around us. Our goal is to promote a positive culture around maths, making it visible, engaging, and inspiring for all our pupils.
This is a perfect fit for our ethos of ensuring children are inquisitive learners who achieve well across the curriculum!
To kick off our week of maths activities, we are inviting all pupils to participate in a special Maths-Themed Dress-Up Day on Friday, 21st November!
The aim is to make this fun, simple, and affordable, encouraging creativity without pressure. We want to see how imagination can bring mathematics to life!
Ideas for Dress-Up:
Simple & Easy: Wear a jumper or t-shirt with a number on it, or something covered in shapes (circles, squares, patterns).
Creative Careers: Dress up as a career that relies on maths, such as an architect, a scientist, a baker (measuring!), a computer programmer, or even an astronaut!
Abstract Concepts: Get adventurous and come as a mathematical concept, like a clock face, a graph, or a geometric shape!
We can't wait to see the wonderful, inventive, and numerical outfits our Wincham pupils come up with! Please encourage your child to talk about the maths behind their chosen outfit—it’s all part of the fun!
Our dedicated teachers have planned a week of engaging, hands-on activities that will deepen your child's love of learning and show them how maths helps us learn, grow, and dream together!
We are very lucky to have the national sprinting champion and athletics coach Claire Spurway back at Wincham to run an after-school athletics club this half-term. The club was a huge success last year. Children will be taught a wide range of athletics techniques and skills. It is open to children from all year groups and will initially run on Mondays from November 10th through to December 8th (5 weeks). It will then hopefully continue next term, but exact times and dates are yet to be confirmed. The cost for the 5 weeks is just £15 and is being subsidised from our sport premium fund.

Wincham Community Primary School’s attendance is in the top 20% nationally! Furthermore, out of 126 schools in Cheshire West and Chester, we are currently positioned an outstanding 29th.
This achievement isn't just a number; it is a clear indicator of how much our pupils love coming to school and how much you, our parents, value their education.
This consistency allows our children to fully benefit from our ambitious curriculum, the expert teaching, and the wonderful personal development opportunities we offer.
Please keep up this phenomenal effort! Together, we are ensuring every child has the best possible chance to learn, grow, and dream.
Key Themes We Are Celebrating
The survey clearly reflected the strong, caring ethos we work hard to maintain every day:
A Safe & Caring School - Over 90% of parents strongly agreed that Wincham is a safe and inclusive space where kindness, compassion, and a strong sense of community are fostered.
Staff Approachability - The most celebrated aspect of our school is the approachability, caring attitude, and enthusiasm of our staff. Comments frequently praised teachers and the leadership team for being welcoming and responsive.
Enthusiasm for Learning - The majority of children are showing strong enthusiasm and a love of learning this term. History trips (like the Toy Museum) and global curriculum topics (like our Kenyan partnership and the "Tasting Kenyan Tea" experience) were frequently mentioned as highly motivating.
Your feedback is our most effective tool for improvement. We listened to your suggestions for growth and are already taking action:
"Communication can be confusing, with too many emails." (A dominant theme across multiple responses). We have immediately reviewed our communication protocols internally. We are committed to achieving single, clear, and timely communication for all school events and information. We will work to ensure advance notice is given wherever possible. Once complete, the full overview of what information we share, and the channels we use, will be published in the newsletter.
"I want more specific feedback and in-the-moment insight into my child’s learning/progress, especially if they are falling behind." As a staff team we are committed to sharing individualized feedback where there are concerns. We are also committed to exploring new, efficient ways to share termly overviews of class topics to help you support learning at home, particularly for those who cannot attend our 'Stay & Do' sessions.
Please remember we have an open door policy - you can always reach out to your child’s teacher for a chat about their progress.
"I do not understand the role of the school governors." (Understanding of this role scored the lowest on the survey). Recent Communication: Our new Co-Chairs of Governors recently wrote to the school community, detailing their work during the first half of the autumn term. Increased Visibility: We are committed to increasing Governor visibility at upcoming school events, giving you a chance to see their support for Wincham in action. We are revisiting the strategic roles of individual governors; once this is complete, this information will be shared on the website and through the newsletter.
We are really excited to share more of our school life with you and the wider community. You can find us on:

Many families are struggling with rising energy bills, and some risk fuel poverty. Citizens Advice Cheshire West, funded by CWaC’s Household Support Fund, runs a Heating bank to provide emergency help with heating costs.
The Heating Bank is designed for families and individuals who may be struggling to keep their homes warm this winter. By offering temporary relief with heating costs, the service aims to reduce the health risks, stress, and hardship caused by cold homes.
Last year, we supported around 1,000 households with an average of £233 each towards energy bills. The service is free, confidential, and offers quick assistance to households on benefits who are struggling to stay warm.
How to access the Heating Bank:
Families can apply directly https://www.citizensadvicecw.org.uk/heatingbank/
Support is available to households who are in receipt of benefits and struggling to meet their energy costs.
The service is free, confidential, and designed to provide quick assistance.
By working together, we hope to make sure no family has to choose between heating and other essentials.
The Live Well Newsletter will be published bi-monthly to provide you with latest updates and information. It is also your opportunity to get involved, have your say and improve our Live Well/Local Offer Cheshire West Website.
All previous newsletters can be found using the navigation bar at the top of the page under 'Home'
This folder is embedded in the newsletter each week. It contains all of the information sent out from school, so you can access anything you may have missed.
