We kicked off our Maths Week with special assemblies themed 'Maths All Around Us.' It was wonderful to explore with the children how maths isn't just about textbooks and sums, but is hidden in the patterns we see, the games we play, and even the songs we sing! We had such fun discovering just how important—and incredibly fun—maths is in our everyday lives.
As well as this, we were thrilled to take part in the Living Streets online assembly this week, on the theme of "We Walk with Confidence."
This was a brilliant way to promote healthy, active minds. The children loved learning about how a brisk walk or wheel to school can really get our brains ready for learning!
A key focus was how to stay safe when walking and wheeling. The assembly provided vital tips and reminded us all about being aware of our surroundings, looking out for traffic, and making safe choices when we're out and about. It's so important that our children feel confident, but also safe, on their journeys.
We also explored together how walking confidently can have a real impact on our wider community, and even discovered some fascinating examples of confident walks from around the world. The interactive quizzes and activities sparked lots of excellent discussions in classrooms, encouraging our pupils to think about their own journeys and the role they play in their neighbourhoods.
It was wonderful to see our pupils so engaged with these important messages. These assemblies are just one of the many ways we encourage personal development, promoting independence, safety, and a healthy lifestyle here at Wincham.
What a buzz we've had for Maths Week England! Our classrooms transformed into investigation hubs where pupils showed fantastic teamwork to crack codes and solve puzzles. The learning spilled outdoors too, with children measuring, counting natural objects, and creating giant number lines in our grounds. The laughter was infectious!
This week perfectly demonstrated our commitment to engaging, relevant learning. By nurturing curiosity through active investigation and catchy songs, we're building confident, capable mathematicians ready for any challenge. We love celebrating every one of their 'lightbulb moments'!
Wow! What an absolutely brilliant way to end our Maths Week England celebrations! We are still buzzing with excitement from our Maths-tastic Dress-Up Day.
A huge, heartfelt thank you to all our incredible parents and carers for your fantastic support and creativity! The effort you put in truly shone through, and it made the day wonderfully special for every child. We were absolutely blown away by the ingenious, imaginative, and downright numerical outfits that filled our school – it was a joyful spectacle!
Our pupils transformed into a vibrant parade of mathematical marvels! We saw everything from smart jumpers adorned with numbers and t-shirts bursting with colourful shapes, to future architects, brilliant scientists, and even a few astronauts ready to calculate their way to the stars! The children who bravely came as abstract concepts, like living clock faces and walking graphs, were particularly inspiring – what incredible imagination!
It was clear that so much thought went into each costume, and we loved hearing the children excitedly explain the maths behind their chosen outfits. This enthusiasm perfectly kicked off our week of engaging, hands-on maths activities. Our dedicated teachers have so much more planned to deepen your child's love of learning and show them how maths truly helps us to learn, grow, and dream together!
Thank you again for making our Maths-tastic Dress-Up Day such an unforgettable success. Your partnership truly enriches our school community!
At Wincham Community Primary School, we often say that "Together, we learn, grow, and dream." While you see the learning happen in the homework that comes home or the stories your children tell at the dinner table, I wanted to share a little about the work that happens behind the scenes to make that learning high-quality.
You may know our teachers as experts in their own classrooms, but did you know that they are also Subject Leaders?
Every member of our teaching staff takes responsibility for a specific area of the curriculum, championing that subject across the whole school. From History to Phonics, Science to Art, our teachers are constantly monitoring and "quality assuring" what is being taught.
What does this look like in practice?
It isn’t just about looking at planning documents. Our leaders dive deep into the daily life of the school to ensure our ambitious curriculum is working for every child:
"Book Looks": Our leaders regularly review children’s exercise books across different year groups. They are checking to ensure that the work in the books matches the high expectations in our planning and that skills are being built logically year upon year.
"Pupil Voice": This is my favourite part of the process! Subject leaders sit down with children to talk about their learning. We ask them what they remember, what they enjoyed, and how they feel about the subject. It is wonderful to hear the children speak so confidently about their knowledge—it is the best proof that the information has truly "stuck."
This process allows us to constantly refine what we do. If we spot that children are finding a specific concept tricky, we adapt. If we see that they love a particular topic, we look for ways to expand on it.
We do this because we are committed to ensuring your children are not just "covering" a curriculum, but mastering it. We want them to leave us as capable, responsible young people who truly love learning.
Crucially, this monitoring process includes a specific focus on our children with additional needs. We are proud of our inclusive environment, and it is vital that our curriculum is ambitious for every pupil.
When subject leaders review work or speak to children, they specifically track the experience of pupils with SEND. They are checking to ensure that the "range of approaches" we use—whether that is adapted resources, visual supports, or specific adult guidance—are effectively helping these children access the same rich learning as their peers. We ask these children directly about their experience to ensure they feel supported, successful, and included in every lesson.
This process allows us to constantly refine what we do. If we spot that children are finding a specific concept tricky, we adapt. If we see that they love a particular topic, we look for ways to expand on it.
We warmly invite you to a highly informative event centred on one of the most celebrated and crucial aspects of our school: the robust personal development of every pupil.
The 'Stay & Do... No Outsiders' event provides a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of our approach to fostering care, community, and respect within our school environment.
Spend time taking part in the lesson with your children, in the same format as our usual Stay & Do.. events. We will demonstrate how our values are brought to life using age-appropriate picture books to teach key concepts of diversity, acceptance, and belonging.
We will share a detailed overview of how the 'No Outsiders' teaching strategically links with the statutory Relationships and Health Education (RHE) curriculum. This foundational work builds kind, confident, and responsible young citizens.
Open Forum & Resource Review: I will be joined by members of our Governing body to answer any questions you may have. We encourage you to review the books used in the scheme and discuss the positive impact of this teaching.
This programme is fundamental to creating the genuinely caring community school highlighted by Ofsted. We are committed to an ethos where every child is valued—we look forward to sharing this vital work with you.
The school governors met this week for the third time this academic year. Governors received information on, and asked questions about progress towards the school's strategic targets, pupil progress and attainment, subject monitoring and quality assurance, and the school's ethos and mission statement. Governors also reviewed the school's finances and ensured the school was meeting it's statutory duties regarding premises and estates. Governors reviewed and approved policies and spending plans for the DfE's Sport Premium and Pupil Premium funding.
A full letter from our Co-Chairs of Governors, Jo Robinson and Gareth Williams, will be sent to all parents in the near future about the impact of the school governors .
Both of Jo's children attended Wincham and are now at high school. She began supporting the school as a member of Wincham Family and Friends before joining the Governing board as a parent governor. At the end of her term as a parent governor, Jo became a co-opted member of the governing board. Jo has experience of the education sector as a secondary school Science teacher in Cheshire West & Chester for over 20 years along with a variety of pastoral roles.
Jo is now one of our 2 co chairs of governors, sharing this important role in shaping the strategic direction of the school.
Each week we will feature a brief introduction to our school governors. Information about the whole governing board is on the school website.

Tracking devices like AirTags and SmartTags were designed to help people find lost belongings, but they’ve also opened the door to worrying forms of misuse. Their compact size and subtle design make them easy to hide, which can lead to the unwanted tracking of people without their knowledge. From stalking and bullying to potential misuse by peers, these gadgets bring a range of risks that trusted adults must stay aware of.
This guide examines the growing popularity of Bluetooth trackers, the most common ways they’re being misused, and how to spot signs that a child may be affected. With practical tips on detecting hidden devices, using the right apps, and starting important conversations, it’s a vital read for parents, carers and educators looking to stay ahead of a fast-moving issue.

There are a range of services we can signpost to, including financial support. There is a wide range of information available on the school website. This includes the Foodbank, free uniform, wider support with rising cost of living, and a range of other things.
If you are struggling financially, please don't hesitate to speak to Mr Boot or Ms Boag-Munroe.
Many families are struggling with rising energy bills, and some risk fuel poverty. Citizens Advice Cheshire West, funded by CWaC’s Household Support Fund, runs a Heating bank to provide emergency help with heating costs.
The Heating Bank is designed for families and individuals who may be struggling to keep their homes warm this winter. By offering temporary relief with heating costs, the service aims to reduce the health risks, stress, and hardship caused by cold homes.
Last year, we supported around 1,000 households with an average of £233 each towards energy bills. The service is free, confidential, and offers quick assistance to households on benefits who are struggling to stay warm.
How to access the Heating Bank:
Families can apply directly https://www.citizensadvicecw.org.uk/heatingbank/
Support is available to households who are in receipt of benefits and struggling to meet their energy costs.
The service is free, confidential, and designed to provide quick assistance.
By working together, we hope to make sure no family has to choose between heating and other essentials.
