Having the correct instrument and supplies helps students start the year successfully! Please use the information below to make sure your student has everything they need for Band.
Please make sure your student has been assigned an instrument by a Danforth Band Director before renting or purchasing an instrument.
Not every instrument is a good fit for every student, and we have a limited number of spots available on each instrument.
If you are considering purchasing a used instrument or an instrument from somewhere other than one of our recommended music stores, please contact a Band Director first. We are happy to help you determine whether an instrument is an appropriate brand, model, and condition for a beginning student.

Families may rent-to-own or purchase an approved instrument. Most beginning families choose to rent.
Percussion students need an approved practice marimba at home in addition to their required percussion supplies.
French Horn • Euphonium • Tuba
These instruments are provided by Wimberley ISD because of their size and cost.
Please do not rent or purchase one of these instruments.
Students using a school-owned instrument pay a $75 annual instrument fee to help cover maintenance and upkeep.
Families are welcome to rent from any reputable band instrument dealer. You are not required to use a specific music store however, please do not purhcase items that are not on the supply or recommended instruments list.
We recommend renting from a music store that specializes in band instruments because they can provide appropriate student models, maintenance, repairs, and support throughout the school year.

For most beginners, renting is the easiest place to start.
It avoids the cost of purchasing an instrument outright, provides access to repair services, and gives families more flexibility while a student is beginning Band.
You are always welcome to purchase an approved instrument instead.
Great! A quality used or hand-me-down instrument can be an excellent option. If the instrument is deemed a good fit for your child.
Before paying for repairs or purchasing additional supplies, please contact a Band Director. We can help determine whether the instrument is an appropriate model and what it may need before your student begins using it.
If you're considering purchasing a used instrument online, send us the listing first! We're happy to take a look before you spend the money.
Please be careful with inexpensive instruments sold through Amazon, Temu, Walmart, Facebook Marketplace, and other general marketplaces.
Some inexpensive instruments are difficult to play, difficult to repair, or made with replacement parts that aren't readily available.
A quality instrument makes learning much easier. When in doubt, ask us before you buy!
Every instrument has its own required supplies.
Depending on the instrument, these may include a method book, tuner/metronome, cleaning supplies, reeds, oils or lubricants, mouthpieces, mallets, and other accessories.
You do not need to figure this out on your own!
Use the Beginning Band or Advanced Band supply lists above to make sure you're purchasing the correct items.
Many of these supplies will last for several years.
