Blood Drive ~ March 2026
"The best student helpers we've ever had!" That's what I (Mrs. Cobb) heard an American Red Cross employee say at the Blood Drive on March 6. So proud of this group of health science students led by Mrs. Bynum and Mrs. Comstock for hosting Fike's annual blood drive. 88 pints were collected! That's 264 lives saved!
Smithfield Foods ~ March 2026
Our Food and Nutrition II students visited Smithfield Foods to gain insight into operations and job opportunities. They also completed training to earn a "Learners to Leaders" program certificate that they can add to their resume! And, they were gifted bacon!!
We celebrated CTE Month in February!
Shout-out to our wonderful team of CTE educators for providing quality instruction to our students, who are earning credentials, participating in project-based learning, and achieving proficiency on state exams!
February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month®. This national public awareness campaign, hosted by the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), celebrates the value of CTE programs and the accomplishments of students and educators across the country.
Surgical Tech Program at Wilson Medical Center ~ February 2026
Wilson Medical Center hosted WCS students to talk with them about the Surgical Tech program, take them on an OR tour to meet staff and see the Da Vinci robot, and have them speak with a surgeon, a surgical tech, and other employees in that space. They discussed salaries, ways to work and attend school, and ways to grow from that role to other roles. They provided lunch and goodies. Students met the hospital CEO, Lindy White, and listened to an engaging presentation by DeLynn Stevens, Surgical Services Manager. This could be a job opportunity when they graduate, with tuition for the program paid.
Wilson Fire & Rescue Services ~ February 2026
Representatives from Wilson Fire & Rescue Services were on campus to demonstrate fire safety on construction sites to Mr. Bassett's Construction Core classes.
WEP Career Health Connections field trip ~ January 2026

We visited RC3 for a presentation by the Wilson County Substance Prevention Coalition, the EMS and Nursing labs at Wilson Community College, and Wilson County Emergency Medical Services.
To celebrate Career Development Month, we observed a few spirit days! Our staff rocked the participation! Career Development Month is a nationwide observance dedicated to focusing on and promoting activities that help individuals to grow, find, or change their career paths.
Greenlight Gaming Lab~ November 2025
The Greenlight Gaming Lab trailer came to Fike!
Greenlight is the City of Wilson's community-owned, fiber-to-the-home network. Students in Mr. Deans's 3D Modeling and Animation classes and Mrs. Durrett's adaptive class learned about Greenlight and local career opportunities in the technology and fiber industries, and then they had a little fun in the Greenlight Gaming Lab.
NC DOT Career Expo ~ November 2025
Mr. Bassett took his Carpentry students to the NC DOT Career Expo, where they experienced hands-on activities and simulations about careers related to transportation and road construction.
Merck Pharma Exploration Program ~ October 2025
The partnership between WEP and Merck is an immersive, hands-on initiative designed to introduce our Wilson County Schools students to career pathways in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and other Pharma careers. The program offers students a unique opportunity to explore real-world applications of science and medicine in a professional setting. Students heard about careers in operations, met plant leaders, toured the facility, and participated in an exercise showing them how to create a vaccine. The program is a 4-semester program and will continue in the spring with shadowing opportunities for the students. This program is a first of its kind at the Merck Wilson Plant, and we are thankful to them for working with our students.
Pathways to Smiles ~ October 2025
Our CTE Students participated in Pathways to Smiles program to learn about dental careers. They experienced hands-on activities and networked with other students from nearby counties.
Forsyth Technical Community College ~ October 2025
Our CTE students were privileged to hear from a representative of the
Forsyth Technical Community College about the programs they offer.
Fike CTE took part in the inaugural Career Pathways Summit, a collaborative event with Wilson Community College and local industry partners. The event drew an impressive turnout, with registration showing at least 343 attendees. Wilson County Schools CTE teachers did an outstanding job engaging with the community and showcasing the many strengths of our Career and Technical Education programs. Several parents shared positive feedback, expressing how impressed they were with the wide range of opportunities available through CTE and how excited they were to learn more about what our programs have to offer. ~ October 2025

They brought sample drawings using the CAD software and spoke to our students about the value of earning credentials while in high school. They each shared their career path story and encouraged our students to take advantage of every credential and internship opportunity they have while in school. ~ October 2025

Many thanks to Esteban and the crew with Wilson County EMS for spending two days at our school to speak with Health Science, Public Safety, and Adaptive classes about the services they provide and the skills they apply on the job. They are always pleasant, patient, and professional while working with our students. The students were excited and engaged while learning about our local emergency medical services!

Many thanks to Chief Boykin for being on campus today to officially kick off the Law and Justice course being taught at Fike and Hunt. He met with the NCDPI consultant, our CTE Director, high school principals, Law and Justice teachers, and Instructional Management Coordinators to give his support. While at Fike, he graciously spoke to our Law and Justice 1 students in Ms. White's class. Thank you, Chief Boykin, for the partnership you continue to cultivate with our schools! Construction teachers from Fike and Beddingfield collaborated and took their students to Jarrett Bay Boat Works in Beaufort, NC. April 2025
Select students interested in the health sciences and Biowork attended BioTech Day at Wilson Community College. They learned about WCC certificate and diploma programs in the areas of Emergency Medical Services, Biotechnology, and Nursing. Students were able to experience simulations in all of those areas, as well as a Q&A about those career paths. We had fun learning!! ~ April 2025
Mrs. White’s Public Safety II students are learning to perform a head-to-toe assessment and two-person carry as part of their first responder unit.

Students in Mr. Bassett's Carpentry 1 class are building their first wall, which will become part of the lumber storage rack in the carpentry shop. Mr. Bassett is using a variety of school projects to give his students hands-on carpentry experience, equipping the students with valuable technical skills needed in the construction industry. ~ February 2025
