School Counselor's Role

School counselors help all students!

Apply academic achievement strategies, manage emotions and

apply interpersonal skills, plan for postsecondary options.

9TH Grade

  • Do well in class- GPA.

  • Pursue your interests.

  • Take a career test and create a CFNC account.

  • Get involved in school- clubs/sports.

  • Meet your counselor.

10TH Grade

  • Improve GPA and focus on your classes.

  • Take a PSAT/PACT.

  • Get involved in school.

  • Update your resume.

  • Explore colleges.

  • Meet with the CCP counselor for dual college courses.

11TH Grade

  • Pursue new activities in or after school.

  • Update your resume.

  • Find three people that know you the best- letters of recommendation requests.

  • Take CCP courses.

  • Prepare for the SAT/ACT.

  • Meet with your counselor/ college advisor.

  • Meet with a military recruiter.

  • Find an internship.

  • Strengthen your academics- GPA.

  • Sign up for a summer program.

  • Apply for available scholarships.

12TH Grade

  • Update your resume.

  • Ask 2 teachers and 1 community member for a letter of recommendation.

  • Take or retake the SAT/ACT.

  • College visits.

  • Complete RDS and FAFSA.

  • Apply for colleges.

  • Meet with a military recruiter.

  • Apply for all local and national scholarships.

What you say to your counselor, stays with your counselor unless:

Someone is hurting you.

You want to hurt someone.

You want to hurt yourself.

You give permission to share with another trusting adult.
