This course is 100% examination, you will sit two papers at the end of Year 11.
The expectation is that assessments and homework tasks will be completed each module building up to these examinations to ensure you are fully prepared and remain on track to achieve a GCSE (grade 1-9) in Business.
There are two written examinations
Paper 1 - Theme 1: Investigating small business and Paper 2 - Theme 2: Building a business follows the same format.
Written examination: 1 hour and 45 minutes, with up to 90 marks available, each paper is worth 50% of your final qualification.
Each paper is divided into three sections:
Section A: 35 marks
Section B: 30 marks
Section C: 25 marks.
The papers will consist of calculations, multiple-choice, short-answer and extended-writing questions. Questions in Sections B and C will be based on business contexts given in the paper.
You will explore why businesses are successful, looking at the impact of factors both inside and outside the control of the business, and investigate ways in which situational analysis can be used to support decision making. You will learn to appreciate the importance of each role businesses play, from small start up businesses up to and including multinational conglomerates that you may well be more familiar with, in ensuring consumers have what they want and need.

Theme 1 concentrates on the key business concepts, issues and skills involved in starting and running a small business. It provides a framework for you to explore core concepts through the lens of an entrepreneur setting up a business.
Here you will be introduced to local and national business contexts and will develop an understanding of how these contexts impact business behaviour and decisions. You will develop an understanding of the interdependent nature of business activity through interactions between business operations, finance, marketing and human resources, as well as the relationship between the business and the environment in which it operates.

Theme 2 examines how a business develops beyond the start-up phase. It focuses on the key business concepts, issues and decisions used to grow a business, with emphasis on aspects of marketing, operations, finance and human resources.
You will need to consider the impact of the wider world on the decisions a business makes as it grows. We will explore national and global business contexts and will develop an understanding of how these contexts impact business behaviour and decisions.
This Business course will provide a firm understanding of how businesses operate and are run. The knowledge and skills you will develop are suitable for any workplace, whether this is using your imagination and creativity, problem solving, research skills, financial solutions and even the ability to meet deadlines. There are obvious links to post 16 courses and careers through business and finance, such as the T-Level in Management and Administration, but it will also put you on a steady footing for whatever course(s) or path you choose to take later on.
